Can I run a SATA and an IDE drive?

I tried doing it before and haven't gotten it to work. I have the SATA hooked up right now with windows XP up and running. Anybody want to help me on the best way to get my IDE up and running as well?

    my specs are:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.21 GHz,
    2.00 GB of RAM,
ATi Radeon X800XL 512MB video card,
    Abit Fatality AN9 32X Motherboard,
    Windows XP Pro, SP2

    Thanks

To be perfectly honest mate, you might have to do what i've done.
Buy yourself a cheap hard drive caddy, and use the IDE as an external drive.

mine works just fine, make sure your sata is set to the master in the bios.

I'm running a SATA and IDE drive. SATA for Windows and Programs, and IDE for my pagefile, music and junk. All you should have to do is set the SATA as primary boot device in BIOS(SATA doesn't have master/slave settings) and set the IDE drive's jumper as master since it's on a channel by itself.

I have 2 IDE drives and 1 SATA II drive. One IDE drive is Master, with XP on it, and it's the primary boot disk. The other IDE is Slave, it's just storage. The SATA is where I install games. The only issue I had was getting XP to see my 300GB SATA drive for what it was. That required drivers.

Re: Can I run a SATA and an IDE drive?

For one your main drive is a SATA so it should be hooked to the red or blue SATA bank on your Mobo! This should free up your IDE HDD connector on the motherboard for IDE drives (HDDs, CDs, DVD). If you have one of those new fangled motherboards where you can make the IDE connector a plethora of things depending on the drivers you preload then you might be hosed!

                1) Check SATA setup on main Hard drive (the one with your OS)
                2) Set jumper on main HDD to master
                3) Set SATA drive to Primary HD in Bios
                4) Set jumper on IDE drive to Slave
                5) Hook IDE drive to mobo and reboot
                6) Set IDE drive to secondary in Bios and make sure it is NOT listed under BOOT order!!
                7) format drive
                8) you should be all set to go!

                Good Luck
