New Video Card

Hey I am getting a new card and I was wondering is this a good card XFX GeForce 8500 GT 256MB PCIe? Also what settings will this card be able to run with no lag? Thanks!

Oh and will vista and dx10 work with bf2?

Also I found this card XFX 7600 GT XXX. It says it runs dx9, but will it run on my dx10 vista computer? Sorry, I don't know much about computers.

Ok, I will tell you what happened for me, and you can take it for what its worth. To run BF2 on high, you need BOTH, a capable video card, and enough ram. Coming up short on either one of those, and the settings must come down. I have run BF2 on both Vista 32 bit, and Vista 64. It didnt run anywhere near as well on 32, as it is now on 64. The deal is though, when I was running it on 32, I had 2 gigs of ram, and on 64, I have 4 gigs of ram. Vista needs, and uses lots of ram, which means to run BF2 AND Vista requires enough ram, or expect the lag. As far as DX10 goes, BF2 runs on DX9. When you are installing BF2, and at the end of the install, it asks if you want to install DX9, if you say no, because you have DX10, the game will not install. You have to install DX9. To answer your question, BF2 will work with Vista, but not with DX10. All you have for now with DX10 is that you will be ready when DX10 compatible games or video cards come along.

any particular budget someone might find you a real gem?

the 8500GT is really only useful for PC's in large companys looking to get the most of vista in the office rather than gaming wise.

the 7600GT would be better in this case, Vista is backward compatible so it will work with older versions of Directx,

yea, the 8500/8600 series were a real let-down. i say get a 7600 because it seems to perform better than an 8500

I agree I didnt answer the question regarding the two different cards ...I thought if I told him about the different versions of DirectX, it might help. But I don't understand the other part ...'any particular budget someone might find you a real gem?' Whats that mean?

people here will look for the best card availible if people give a budget rather than them choosing sometimes it could be a wrong choice such as the 8500gt

Get the 7600GT it will work fine on vista dx10 or not
