PCI-Express?

Would anyone explain the advantages of PCI-E to me? Im pretty knowledgable when it comes to comp. stuff but i havent messed with any of the recent technology, i havent built 1 from scratch since back when the Nvidia TI-4800s were king, before all the SLI and PCI-E and whatnot. Im working on building one right now and after doing research ive seen you have to have a special PSU to run one of the pci-e cards so now im just debating on going with a AGP card, or going with a PCI-E. Back in the day (3 years ago) PCI sucked and AGP was the way to go, so what about PCI-E ? Once i decide on the video card then i will pick the mobo and PSU, i already have everything else i need.


Incase anyone was wondering, here my current comp. I built it back in 02-03 i think. Since then ive been into MX racing and messing with quads and whatnot, but now i think i wanna start back gaming a little so i figured its time for a new 1.

well as of tight now pci-e is the way to go,it offers better transfer speeds,and all new cards are being built for it as well,you can find agp cards but theyre more expensive nowadays.

its got more speed than AGP (although even an 8800 Ultra cant use all the band width of AGP) in downstream and upstream (which is what makes SLi possible), it supports multi-card solutions and provides more power to the card (which is useful - although even now not enough - thus PCI-e 2.0 is on the cards)

pci express is really all the new cards work in so are alot faster then agp

was wondering myself if pci-e was better than agp, here's what i have, anybody tell me if its a good card? sure looks sweet on my computer, but i'm no goo roo when it comes to the speeds & all the techo stuff

1650's are decent cards. when ati went from the x1300's and x1600's to the x1350's and x1650's, what really happened is that the old 1600's ended up being eerily similar to the new 1350's and the new 1650's ended up being (usually) slightly slower than the discontinued x1800's.

edit: your memory looks like it's clocked awfully slow. then again, ddr2 and all.

edit 2: it may be de-clocked for 2d apps (or it may just be a slower version). check you overdrive panel. my x1950xt stays slow (and cool) until i open a 3d game like another poster mentions:
