Mr project for the summer holidays

Ok. Let me explain myself:

I can do intermediate stuff with a computer. Install graphics cards, sound cards, windowsxp etc. But i have no clue as to how to put new motherboards or processors in.

So over the summer im going to rebuild my computer.
Please dont come back to this thread and say 'search before you type' because i really could do with replies being specific to the PC im going to build.

My current system specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1.8ghz
1.25gb RAM
ATI 9800 Pro
Modern sound card
About 120gb HD
All in AGP

And I am looking to replace and upgrade:
Gfx card
Processor
RAM
Motherboard (preferably kee it AGP so i dont have to replace my sound or network card)

To get all this i think im going to have £300-£500

Please understand that i am not a really big techy so i dont really fell the need for super high tech stuff, please dont post a £400 gfx card:)

So basically the point of this thread is to ask for help in regard to what i need to do, to do all of this? Processor socket is 939

And also any suggestions as to good components.

Only your GPU is in AGP bus, so you can change your mobo and still keep other cards.

I would suggest you to get an intel E4300, cheapest DDR2 ram you can find, either 667 or 800 and 8600gt or some other GPU of your choice.

Cheapest DDR2 800 ram (2Gb)

Should cost you around 500-550£ and will get you to the moon already. If you wanna get further get a 8800 GTS 320 mb.

I doubt your socket is 939, but if it is, you could just get another processor (preferably faster), a new GPU and some more ram. But since you have an AGP board I suggest you get a new mobo.

Screw AGP, wait and save money then just buy a whole new pc as a lot of the stuff you will buy now is getting outdated fast.

What kind of things are getting outdated and what is the 'new' stuff going to be?

Also, does anyone know the name of:
1) The cable, or power unit that speeds up info transfer between the HD's or something like that. (sorry to be vague)
My friends PC has got it and they get super fast load up times for BF2 maps and stuff.

Like Tasty said, screw AGP. Its dead. There are going to be no more AGP cards as far as I know. If you get a new AGP mobo you're going to be digging yourself into a hole and paying more money still to go to PCI-E. Save that extra money and go to PCI-E now. Theres so many cheap, decent, motherboards that support PCI-E and the video card is hardly going to break your bank balance.

How do i know what motherboards are AGP? Do they say or are there certain makes?
