    Do you overclock?

Now that I have a motherboard that doesn't have training wheels, I have been wondering about overclocking my x2 4800.

I am an admitted total noob to overclocking and was wondering how others felt about it.

In your opinion with my specs, would it help me at all. Right now, I am running on all high with 2xAA. I haven't checked my fps yet, but it seems fine.

It's upgrade-itis... we always want more speed from our machines. I just wonder is it worth it?

    Re: Do you overclock?

you've got a GREAT mobo, rubbish ram (but learn dividers and you'll be ok) and a CPU that must have some left in it.

With me 7950GT and 3 GHz AMD i can max BF2 with 4xAA at 1680*1050

i REALLY would get new RAM though, as AMD's REALLY don't like 4 sticks of RAM - try getting some non-value 2x1 GB sticks.

I've got an A8N-SLi Premium (an ok overclocking mobo), and it's taken my AMD 3700 from 2.2 GHz to 3.07 GHz, thats a 40% (!) overclock.

I am now an overclock whore

then go on Overclock.net and learn - it doesn't actually require any skill, just some time to learn and some basic PC hardware knowledge (and some intelligence)

          Re: Do you overclock?

Usually with normal mobos you don't have to worry much, the only way to instantly destroy something is to increase voltages to crazy levels, and cheap mobos either don't allow or are not capable of that. But a DFI can burn any component in an eyeblink. So increase voltages with caution.

Your GPU is a pre-clocked one, it may still clock some more, because those may have faster memory and so on.

            But some more RAM first.
