    Adding/Changing Ram Deactivates xp?

    Wtf, so my new ram is supposed to come tomorrow, so about 5 minutes ago, I decided to take one stick out and put it in my dads computer. Then, I boot up xp, and it says "Since the installation of xp, the hardware of this computer has changed. You need to reactivate, etc.." The problem is, I've activated my xp a bunch of times, and Im not sure I can activate it anymore. But, since this is a legit copy and I'm not stealing it, how can I get it reactivated if they say its been used too many times? I'm not going to activate it until tomorrow when i get my new ram in, so I only have to do it once.

    I've just never heard of this happening before...


    EDIT: I think I might have saved my butt on this one. I just remembered that I made a norton ghost image like yesterday! I'm gonna pop the ram back in and restore the image and hopefully be fine for now. I still don't know what I'm gonna do when I get the new ram though.. Any suggestions?

      It's ok.

      I have xp home and I activated it like 4x this month because I kept switching it over on different HD's (to new computer then to old computer - defective HD so on so on...). Anyways, the answer to your question is simple. Just go along with the activation but use the telephone option this time.

      It's really simple, I did it today myself. They ask you why this happened of course - and you tell them. They will then ask you if you have it installed on more than one computer - which you don't I am assuming. If your using it legally, then you'll get a special number that will activate your windows.

          Yay!

          I got my new memory, popped it in, and restored my hard drive to a day before using norton ghost, and it all seems to be going good. I didn't ask me to reactivate or anything...

              yeh normally if you use all the reactivations up, just ring them up explain why and theyll gve you a code to reactivate it. So not to worry about it, if its legal MS will help you.

                  yeah i cant activate it over internet no more use the code around 20 times lol :) cos i keeped swaping and getting a new harddrives!!!
