    1st boot.....no imput display.......

today i was installing steam and half life 2......while installing half life 2 at 92% i realize monitor is blank....so i shake my mouse and press a few things on the keyboard thinking it will come back on.....but it didnt....i turned off the monitor and turned it back on and same thing...blank. so i decide to hold my power button till my computer turns off....it does and i boot it right back up. it get to the windows xp load screen and freezes. so after rebooting my computer like 10 times until my computer turned on right i went to bios. i thought this is happeneing most likely because my 1st boot device is my cd drive. and i havent tooken out the XP cd since the reinstall but i had to take it out to install Half life 2. so like an idoit i set my 1st boot device to floppy....forgetting that i dont have a working floppy drive! so it loads again and freezes once again i rebboot. and nothing....Just blank....is this because my 1st boot device is my floppy drive and i dont have one? or something else? And how can i fix it? (oh and i forgot to mention when i did set it to floppy drive as 1st boot...a really high tone pitch came from my computer when it got to desktop and froze....ever since that my computer doesnt show anything when you turn it on)

    Re: 1st boot.....no imput display.......

When you say freeze, do you mean it freezes on a black screen during boot up or after XP loads and freezes on the welcome screen?

I think after or before the BIOS option you can press something like shift+F10 and it'll then ask if you want to start it in safe mode and maybe some other options. Try that - but I'm not sure if thats just my old mobo's settings or if thats defualt. Anyways, no harm in trying.

If that works and you manage a boot up, your best bet is to probably use system restore.

Next option - Are you using SATA drives? It could be possible that your HD got turned off somehow in the BIOS. Believe me, it happened to me last summer and I was never in the BIOS. It sounds like you know your way around in there, it should be in the CMOS anyways I think. That may be why your system freezes on boot up (provided that your not seeing the XP logo screen)

Your final option would be to format. It may suck but it cleans up all the crap too.

Those are just the three ideas that come to my mind right now. No one else said anything yet so maybe that'll help you as your probably waiting impatiently for a reply... Goodluck m8

well as of right now....when i boot up the computer nothing happens....the screen is blank....my keyboard and mouse don't even turn on, and i believe it is my HD as well when i shut off my computer its quieter? i mean before i could hear my HD turn off with the computer...but not anymore....also the monitor i have is brand new...but i switched from the dvi-d cable to regular and everything, but still no luck.

i have one SATA drive but that doesn't have windows on it the other one does. well after turning my computer on and off for like 10 minutes i realized my hard drives aren't on....or one or the other.so i checked the psu and they are powered cables are as well.....then they suddenly turn on???? like after 10 seconds or so....but still nothing screen is still blank. i odnt know wtf to do some one please help....or atleast bump the thread if you view

      thanks!

ok so i went to school for 8 hours....came home turned it on without doing anything to it. and it turned on and booted right up, but after 5 minutes of being on desktop the screen gets all fizzy and weird colored...and ym computer didnt respond......my question is ill wait a few more hours until hopefully i can turn it on...and go to bios...but what should i look for? what should i change? what should i put as my 1st boot?...2nd boot?

p.s im pretty damn sure its the hardrives...

        1) Never turn off a PC by holding in the power button unless it is a last resort because you can seriously mess up your MBR (master boot record). This is the major reason that causes PCs not to boot in the manor you discribe.

        2) In Bios Set to boot to CD first, then to HD, leave 3rd boot option 3 blank since you don't have a floppy

        3) Boot pressing F8 (function 8 key) this will give you the option to enter safemode. If you can get into safe mode then your issue is probably with a driver. (Do a registry restore back to a week before you had this issue) Try rebooting after roleback!

        4) If you can not boot into safe mode. Then boot to the Windows XP CD.
And at the blue screen you will need to select the REPAIR option.
You will then be taken to the Recovery Console and dumped to a command prompt C:> (DON'T PANIC)

        5) 1st Type: chkdsk /r to repair any disk errors caused by improper shut down.

        6) 2nd Type: FIXBOOT to recover your boot partition

        7) Try to reboot in normal. If that does not work then try booting with F8 to get into safemode.

        8) Please let me know how it goes, and if you have any trouble along the way.

Hey, you just told me on aim that you shot your computer. So why did you bump this thread if your computer is done?
