I thought some of you might find this interesting, so I am sharing...
Since building my first system, I have been upgrading it piece by piece for a couple of years. BF2 is a major reason for it.
Recently, I upgraded to an AMD x2 4800 and liked the result, but I knew that my low grade motherboard is probably holding me back a bit.
Through some creative trading, I now have a DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra D motherboard on its way via Pony Express.
So... in an effort to share some technical insight, I upgraded my 3dMark to 06 and ran it this morning, w/o changing ANYTHING on my system to artificially juice the score (no processes stopped, just ran like everyday use). Man was I UNimpressed w/ my system (specs in sig)
running a 4279.
Anyway, I am hoping for my new motherboard (yes, I do know that the new one is NOT STATE OF THE ART, but hell, its socket 939, so buying the biggest and baddest would be stupid at this point) to arrive either later today or tomorrow.
I am going to swap it in and re-run 3d Mark 06 the exact same way to illustrate the difference a motherboard makes on performance.
Truthfully, I have no clue how this is going to turn out, although I definitely expect some improvement.
I DO know that after completing this experiment, I will be utilizing the board for what it was bought for and that is some minor overclocking (which my current board has literally no capability of).
See you tomorrow...
