Gaming Laptop Help

Hey guys, I want to buy a gaming laptop, my budget is $1,000. Absolutely no more than $1,100. I want to be able to run BF2 on default high (not neccessarily with AA) with an FPS of around 30-60. I know my chances of getting that are not likely at all because the laptops are fairly expensive.

I've been looking at this...

Dell Inspiron 1501
2.0ghz Turion 64 MK-36
2GB DDR2 Ram
80GB 5200RPM HD
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 (256Mb Shared Hypermemory)

That's about $900.

I've been looking for Benchmarks for the video card -- I have no clue how good it is as I'm not familiar with laptop graphics cards. If anyone here could give me some info on how well that card will run, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't want a hardcore gaming laptop, just one that won't lag with a semi-modern game like BF2 on it's high settings (However I'd settle for medium settings at that price with at least 1024x768 res).

I find his results for FEAR impressive (as I said I don't want a hardcore gaming rig). And he had only 1GB DDR2, I will be upgrading to 2GB. What are your thoughts? Ye or ne?

That gfx card wont go above low, why get a laptop when u can get a sick desktop for $1000

Are you serious? That card won't get above low? It runs FEAR with 30 FPS on medium... FEAR has more/same system requirements as BF2...

- In my opinion, I would say no to that laptop. if you want it for gaming, your first priority should be a good graphics card with non-shared memory, pci-e interface would be best.

- always get either nvidia or ati video, never integrated if you want to play games.

- 2gig memory wont help framerates, but it will make applications run more smoothly and clear up any texture load lag.

if your looking at dells, have you checked the dell outlet? you might find something with a 256mb x1400 (or better), or nvidia 6800 card (or better).

You want to build a gaming pc for less than 1.5k, don't even bother with a laptop. A laptop that can run bf2 on all high is gonna run at least that, but you can build a shoebox pc that is still fairly small but will as fast as a regular desktop.

Are you serious? That card won't get above low? It runs FEAR with 30 FPS on medium... FEAR has more/same system requirements as BF2...

Its hard to compare a FPS which localizes in small indoor maps to a fps which you can play with from 16 to 64 players in much wider & complex maps.

So would you compare and apple to a bannana?

Alright, then that laptop is out of the question. Thanks for all the advice.

I don't want new PC (Tonic, MatDef :p)... I'll waste my money on a new state of the art, top of the line PC about a month or two after Quake Wars releases.

I guess my price range for a laptop of the quality I want right now isn't going to happen, I'll wait until I have more money .

Mac's dont do gaming...unless you use the new (semi new) thing to run windows inside of mac, then it does gaming pretty good...

actually my dell E1505 with X1400 Hypermemory runs BF2 pretty decent. I don't have most to low because I don't really notice the difference anyways. I have Terrain and Texture to High which is the only thing that really matters from graphics point of view. No AA and 2xAF and I get 30-45fps at 1028x768
