Mic problem with BF2

Hey,

I am using a Creative Sound blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty sound card (it goes into PCI slot and then uses an EEID cable or something like that to connect with a front panel 5 1/2' bay).

The Mic plug in is in the front panel. I can hear myself over my speakers, So I know its connected but BF2 simply doesn't see my mic.

I figured that it is prolly something to do with the hardware, so right now I'm trying to use the mobo sound ports for my mic... I'll let you know if that works but nonetheless, I rather use my sound card.

common problem happens with everything, run VOIP setup using your x-fi and it should start working

So does that mean I need to reinstall BF2?

If thats the case I think I'm going to buy the pc dvd with all 3 xps in it... I hate having to switch discs every few minutes. Not to mention the patching, uggghh.

Doesn't work.

I still have the same problem, I can talk through my mic and hear myself over my speakers but when I go to voicesetup it does not pick up anything at all.

i used to have the same problem, go to your audio settings in BF2 and find the mic test, now if u click on the test no sound will come through? try making a noise just as you click on the test and for some reason you can then hear yourself through the speakers .. what i did to fix this was just to run VOIP setup a couple of times till it came right, anoying i know but it did the job for me in the end

Not sure where it is in the X-Fi controls but look for a setting called "What you hear" and change it to Mic. Also make sure that the mic is muted under playback and enabled under Recording.

you could try;

find the test hardware under sound in control panel, run the test (it may take a few minutes) and then you should be back in action then. I have to run this everytime i update my sound drivers. I use an older Audigy Platinum.

also out of interest....have u tried the mic port on the card directly rather than relying on the front panel? just in case u have a duff front panel?

if your using an X-Fi, then you definately should have your mobo sound disabled in the bios if you haven't done so yet.

I tried to look for that, coudn't find it though. I know there is something like that in dxdiag though. I'll do that later.

Woah, I can't believe I overlooked connecting the mic directly into the sound card in the back. Actually, I was sleepy when reading the diagram and I thought it was all sound output which left me thinking that was a bit weird.

Anyways, I changed ports and its working now. And the front port is not defective - BF2 just doesn't get the signal yet I can hear myself.

I'm sure I turned that off but I will check the next time I boot up just to make sure nothing is conflicting.
