1. how come the XT & XTX scores are nearly identical
2. the GTX is factory oc'd
3. everyone believes a known nvidia biased webbie, I'll wait till May 2nd when we'll see the true Benchies.. :p

tbqh all i care about is the pricetag, but since places that tested the R600 are still under the NDA i dont quite believe Dailytechs news

seems like all they may have done was just overclock the xt a lil bit to xtx speeds.

Im not a fan boy really but from my personal experience I've had a horrible time with ATI card's. The first card I got after my nvidia 4600 ti was a 9600XT I got HL2 free with it... It worked for a month during the month I had it, the drivers were crappy, and sucked. I had nothing but issues, and it didn't seem to be to big of a gain over my 4600 ti which is way older then any 9600XT. A month later, I smelt something burning, and the fan had literally melted, and the card just burnt out. I had no idea a 9600 XT of all things could do that. I took it back, and got another card of the same kind. Booted up for about two weeks, worked fine even performed better the previous one, then I got colors on my monitor and the PC wouldn't even get into windows before it'd lock up with all these colors. So again I took it back, and left the HL2 card at home :P, got me a nvidia 5950 Ultra, it cost a lot more, but it was worth it. The performance gain even know the 5950 was one of nvidia's worst cards was night and day.

So I stick to nvidia, even if ATI comes out with something faster. As far as AMD - and Intel I may jump back my next upgrade to AMD, its just whoevers faster on that end.


Anyway back on topic, the cards tested could have buggy drivers, it could be anything. Those cards aren't released to the public, however you'd think ATI would have drivers stable enough to take on the GTX. nVidia knows whats its doing, and there seems to be more games with the giant nvidia logo then ATI. Tomb Raider Legend's allows you to use a enhanced feature that seems to be nvidia related, sure it works with ATI to but nvidia has it hands in a lot of games. To me I can trust the scores but both cards are using a new architecture, DDR4 is knew, it could have high latencies, at the high clocks. Surely since nvidias 8800 Series has been out ATI has had that to test with its own card, and wouldn't release something thats that much worse then it. If those are the scores of the GTX I can't imagine what the 8800 Ultra which is suppose to be two cards in one will do to it, and those were just single cards. I expected since ATI has had more time that it'd over-come nvidia by bringing out something better... I guess we all just got to wait.

All they did is stack more VRAM on the card along with GDDR4 and up the memory clocks. It doesn't have any more shaders, and the core will run about the same frequencies as an overclocked 2900XT.

Do you remember the 1950XTX debacle and how ATI stacked 512GB of GDDR4 on the card and upped the memory clocks to 2000mHz (550mHz higher than a 1900XTX) in order to increase memory bandwidth significantly while thinking it would increase performance? Do you remember what happened? The card was very close in performance to the 1900XTX. There wasn't much of a difference at all--in fact, it resembled exactly what DailyTech is showing you was the case with THIS gen of cards from ATI.

IMO, i think its driver issues. its a brand new card and the 8800 has been out for a while, so im guessing that within a few months with better drivers, the 2900 will do alot better

Exactly, how stable were the first few drivers for the nvidia 8 series, i recall they were an Fing nightmare, so its a bit harsh expecting ATI's to be perfect off the bat...

I too believe it is due to immature drivers. I will wait and see how the drivers mature and go from there. Until, I'll read benchmarks, but look at them a skeptical eye.

It absoloutely kills me evey time I read posts from people who are so millitant about one computer company beating out another in anything. You either haven't been around long enough or arent smart enough to know that this is a "punch - counter punch" market. One company makes something, the other makes something - usually just a hair better. Sometimes one company gets 2 punches in, but that is usually follwed up by an uppercut from the other company.

It always kills me when I come on this board and I see some kid asking someone to "choose the best system for me"... Some fanboi invariably spouts off the best components at the time and thinks he's done this kid a favor, when in all reality all hes done is postpone buyers remorse for maybe a couple extra months till the newer badder better thing comes along. Pick the components that fit your needs at the time and go with them. I guarantee that if you wait so much as 2 weeks there will be something better on the market, and then you'd have to start the process all over again.

the smart ones give advice for parts that are future proof so that when something does change they dont have to spend a fortune on a new parts instead just having to replace the cpu, but why would anyone do that after 2 weeks unless its some spoilt kid that wants to have the best of everything otherwise its a waste of money.
