GeForce 6200-=Versus=- Radeon 9600XT

I'm currently running a "P4 2.8G, 1Gig of ddr & a PNY Nvidia gf6200 256mb agp video card"( which allows BF2 to run just barely) The other day my friend gave me his old "ATi radeon 9600XT 128mb agp card" (as he finally made the switch to PCI express) The "ATi 9600XT" looks alot more heavy duty than my "geforce 6200". My question is: IS IT? would there be that much of a difference in performance in BF2, or should I just stick with the ol' nv 6200? Thanks

The specs of the 9600xt suggest it should be about 20-50% faster than the 6200.

That isn't a scientific comparison of course, but it does give a clue as to what you can expect.

Shader Operations and Texture Fill Rate are the most important numbers on that list. 2000 vs 1200 for both.

I uninstalled & cleaned all remnants of the old nvidia driver, then installed & updated the RADEON drivers. The 9600XT is a slow as a snail! The choppiness had me Pop-locking like Ozone & Turbo in Breakin' So I put the GeForce 6200 back in.Everything's back to normal.

Something must be wrong with that card then, possible incompatibility? I've had 3 of them in different systems at the same time, sold one to a friend that worked fine in my comp, but crappily in his. Trying a second one from a different company worked fine.

The benchmarks are quite clear as to which is superior. Perhaps try an older driver too. Something in the 2005 range or before. 5.10 or 5.8's

Alot of the time the card is not used to all the new settings and it will goof off.

Also helps if the folders in,

My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

are deleted too. You also don't say what settings you are trying to run the card at.

yeah def remove the stuff in teh cache ^^ thats prob wats causing ur problems.

prob one advantage with the 6200 is that it supports shader model 3.0 i think and 9600 only supports up to 1.4

9600xt(all 9000 series) are DX9 and sm2.0b compatible.

Yes this is an advantage(sm3.0), but not one that is used by BF2. Also the 6200 using sm3.0 wouldn't be doing so at a very playable framerate anyway. The user most likely would benefit from choosing the sm2.0 or 2.0b options in the games that offer it.

Someone made a good point, what settings is he trying now? Are they identical or did he bump them up per our assurance that it is a superior card? And clearing the cache too, that helps a bit.

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

clear EVERY folder that is inside that cache folder, so that only an empty cache folder remains.

oh i think i mustve been thinking of the 9250 which i think doesnt support SM2.0. oh well

Okay I'll try clearing the: "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache" folder and see what happens. Thanks
