Why does everyone ***** about vista?

I'm running Vista Ultimate right now and am having 0 problems!

INFACT, in flight simulator X, I'm getting better frame rates, in BF2, I'm getting about the same FPS, and in LOMAC a few more. My stats:

Intel P4 2.53 ghz
1 gig ram
Nvidia 6600 OC AGP

I haven't had any compatibilty issues, or anything, it was the easiest OS install I've ever had to do, it automatically found my network drivers (Which with XP I had to search for and burn to a disc and then install them). Found all the sound drivers, instead of what I just said. I love the application search when you click on the orb! You just type in a few letters of the program *from anywhere in the name* and it comes up! So I don't know what people are bitching for!

for the first time yesterday i was using Vista Home Premium on my m8's new laptop, i got to grips with it fairly easy, the os still uses the commands from XP which is cool as these commands i use are to access files deep in the system to tweak it etc etc.

The layout was nice, but i found to be a memory hog. You can disable many features & still keep the transparency effect.

Overall i think this O/S is just a show off with colours & effects nothing more.

There is a lot more to Vista than you think. Once all the drivers have been released, Vista will be a lot safer and less prone to crashes. One big change they have made is the way that drivers work. I read an article about it but i can't remember the exact details, but the jist of it was that they had split the drivers up into 2 sections: the hardware level driver and application level driver. This meant that if the application driver crashed, then it would not take the hardware with it, thus preventing a BSOD.
There are loads of other changes; too many to go into.

I am on Home Premium right now and I can say that I have no problems at all expept in BF2 I load a bit slower. As far as frame rates go I have no drops, infact in CoH I noticed that the lighting is better on DX10.

Vista users: If you dont know by now you can LEGALLY extend your 30 grace period up too 90 more days. Just incase you dont want to activate just yet.

Maybe they canned that driver idea for XP in the same way they canned WinFS for Vista.

And how much more did you get the BSOD on XP compared to 98 or 2000? I remember getting the BSOD on those if you removed a floppy while it was loading. Or a cd while a game was running.

I hardly ever got the BSOD on 98se although i did used to get it alot on 95.

Ultimate 64 here, and like the others zero problems.

One thing I did do that helped a lot with game performance was download and run the April DX update,

it updates/adds a few DX9 files as well as update some of the DX10 files. The recently released 158.18 drivers from Nvidia helped a lot too.

Maybe I should update and hopefully get BETTER performance then.

The problem I think is, people aren't updating their drivers that don't do it automatically and aren't willing to find them. And then they get 1 problem and say it SUCKS without trying to find a resoulition. Let windows try to find the problem, with LOMAC, the drivers for the anti piracy part had to be upgraded. Vitsa found them and downloaded them and practiclly installed them. Automatically.
