Advice needed please!!

Hi all, i'm looking at getting a new pc quite soon, but the thing is i know very little on the technical side. For this reason, i would rather buy a ready made pc rather than make one myself. So i found this, and from the little i know, it seemed quite good: Firstly, it's windows vista, and it has a dx10 card, which to me shows that it is quite up to date on the techy side. So here it is, tell me what you think.

Would you say I should customize it a bit in order to get the best out of it? Or could I get a better pc someplace else for the same amount of money? And the processor, i'm not sure what a quad core is, or if it's even any good?

How does the processor that comes standard in the package comapre to this?:

And what sort of fps difference would i get compared to my current set-up?

I ran into the same problem a month ago....I was also not intelligent with pc parts and makeup...BUT, after hearing that building your own pc was easy as hell.... I really do suggest you to build your own...it is VERY easy, the manuel gives you a step by step walkthrough. You can also customize it easily.

But that 1st link computer looks very nice.is that computer in euro? cuz $1800 for extreme is AMAZING.

wow thats an extremely nice computer you have there !!

you wont need to do any upgrades for a few years. that 8800GTX will be fine for most gmes. Your rig will play CRYSIS all high with a nice FPS.

and about the Quad Core, its just four different cores working together to acheive better performance. i think CRYSIS will utilize all four of those cores.

That system in the first link looks nice. If you don't want to build one well then I guess it s a good choice.

Its been my personal experience that in canned systems you do not who's brand of anything they put in the machine...that 8800GTX and the other equipment could be the cheapest brands they could find. I'd bet you find out there's at least a couple a brands in that machine that you've never heard of...

Hi there,

thanks for the advice, i think i might look into building my own, maybe get someone i know to help me. I was thinking about basing it around an 8800GTX and an equally good cpu.

The cpus i'm looking at are here, could you tell me which one i should get to get the max out of this potential machine, in other words which one would be most suited to go with an 8800GTX so no bottlenecks occur?:

BTW, i wouldnt be overclocking these cpus to begin with (no way near enough experience) so i would be using them as they come

So what cpu would you advise me getting?

I can either get an:

Core 2 Duo E6600
Core 2 Duo E6700 (most inclined to get this for money reasons)
Core 2 Duo Extreme x6800
Core 2 Quad Q6600

So far i've seen no-one on this site with a quad core, most seem to have the duo cores, so are these better?

with intels recent price drops Quad cores are now more accessible (they used to cost something similar to the X6800 iirc)

quad cores will last you a good few years so at that price its better than C2D

The pricedrops happen on the 22nd, so the quad cores aren't quite affordable yet. I'll be going quad next week though.
