Could someone post some setups for a gaming rig that will run bf2 maxed out, AA @ full, no lag, w/nice fps on 64 player sever? price range: 800 to 1000 USD. no peripherals needed(mice keyboard sound card speakers, etc...). thanks.

BF2 is almost 2 years old now, its not as if you require top of the worls tech anylonger.

If you don't need a monitor, you should be able to find a pretty decent gaming PC already built for around $1000. Now if you're looking to build your own, you should be able to do it for around $700.

Depending on your technical know-how, you may just want to check out dell.com or some other pre-built company.

total=$1066-$20 rebate if you get around to it, dx10 compatible, and everything you'd need to get the most fps/eyecandy available.

That doesn't take into account the fact that intel CPU's should have a substantial price cut after the 22nd. Honestly, I'd wait until then to decide because an e6420 (w/2x the cache of an e6400) at a much smaller price might be more appealing than an e6600 with a slightly higher default speed. If it was me, I'd get the e6420 and a nice p965 board (like my p5b-e--now we're talking closer to your lower limit of ~$800) and use the money I saved to get an upgraded case or cooling components...

...but I know from your previous threads that you insist on staying absolutely on topic, so we won't discuss peripherals.

edit: din't mean to get davey in trouble with the powers that be...just requesting some clarification before investing 20 minutes of my life on a gametech thread. :)

Yeah its just that I had to switch to different budgets and needed to make a difrent thread. 1066 dollars aint too bad. is it good in terms of expandability? i'd probably want to upgrade it in the future.

hmmm...expandability. Well, the motherboard will accept a quad core and depending on where intel pegs the FSB of the upcoming mainstream chips due out in the third quarter, with future bioses it will most likely run them at full rated fsb (provided you had the memory).

So, you're future proof for the next couple of years with regard to the motherboard. The price of that e6600 will fall significantly next week, but an e6600 will still be a very good processor two years from now. Personally, I'm waiting until q3 07 when I can buy a q6600 for ~$280.

The 680i has sli capability, so you've got options to add another gpu, if you really wanted to later.

The only thing that might be underpowered is the psu. Let's see, though...3x19A on the +12V rail. Hmmm, that's 57A available to the +12v rail. Depending on your configuration, it is conceivable that you could stress that (we're talking 2x8800gtx and a heavily overclocked CPU with significantly increased voltages), but when you start looking at 850W psu's you're looking at a budget buster, and the law of diminishing returns takes front seat. Like I said before, there are comparable, reliable PSU's for better prices, but as quiet? With a 5 year warranty? With all the safety features? I'm sure there are some out there; I just haven't met them yet.

nice, thanks for the help. will this also be able to run a full scale ArmA:Combat Operations server with all highest settings?

Im actually going to need a 3 GHZ processor to get full potential from this game as I have seen the differences b/w the recommended and minimum specs needed. Its not pretty- is there any nice 3.0ghz or higher CPU's that I can use on this motherboard, preferably dual core, or one that is known to be fast and have a fast FSB? thanks. the overall setup besides the CPU is pretty good, and for that price, its awesome.

well you need a 3 GHz P4, a Core 2 Duo does double per MHz, so a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo is like a 4.8 GHz P4
