    antivirus scanning..

ok so im using Symantec AntiVirus (not Norton) and it usually takes 105min for a full scan (for some reason, Matlab takes up most of the time scanning) and i havent done a full scan in a while, so i decide to start one, and it ends in 9 min with only scanning like 9400 files...so i think somethings wrong. any ideas?

    Your either:

Not scanning hidden files and folders

Not scanning system files (E.g. those in system32 folder)

Not scanning archived files and folders.

Programs such as Avast and AVG are usually a lot better than the big companies who make Norton, symantec etc....
People who design viruses specifically make them so they get around Norton or symantec because they know that the majority of users will have one of those programs. I was using Norton (No viruses apparently), i switched to Avast personal edition and found about 5 trojans.... good one Norton .
Norton may look better cos it has all the extra knobs and features on, but in reality, its not very good.
        I would personally recommend:

        Antivirus: Avast or AVG
        Firewall: Sygate, Zonealarm
        Antispyware: Spybot, ad-aware, CWShredder
        Advanced Registry checker: Hijackthis

yeah i have most of those...except zone alarm really gets on my nerves sometimes becuz of all its blocking and asking for exceptions.

and i just ended up doing a custom scan and selecting everything and doing the scan, but idk wat settings to change to make sure its scanning everything when doing th full scan..oh well
