The problem: My drive wasn't reading disks
What I did: Changed the drive to an older one, to my stupidity, the drive only reads cds, not dvds -.-

How I solved the problem: Alex98uk realised my drive didn't play/read dvds, I changed the drive back to the other one and blew out the dust covering the lens. Now it works fine

10kg of ammonium nitrate + 2g mercuric fulminate + 4 metres of cannon fuse + you running the f*ck away about 2km = PC gone (and a few blocks or two, but meh, collateral damage).

Alternatively, yes, you could try changing which IDE channel the drive is on.

I was thinking of Cheap plastic explosives, chainsaw for melee combat. 10k Tons of lightable Nitrate... and abit of nos. For my car...

How do I do that? Changing the Ide channel is pretty serious stuff, how do I do it?

Changing the IDE channel isn't usually "serious stuff" but if you had wiring like mine, I guess it would be. All it means is move the IDE cable on the motherboard side to a different IDE slot.

My motherboard is mothering as good as usual, I bet it's because I (my dad) plugged it in to the wrong socket.

I have 3 channels:


ATA channel 0
ATA channel 1
SiS PCI IDE Controller


I THINK, my device is connected to ATA channel 1.

The first 2 channels are just standard ones..nothing spec about them :|

Yes, just switch channels. The most likely thing is that it's a problem with the motherboard IDE controller, in which case you're f*cked. I think your HDD will be on the other IDE channel, see if switching them makes your PC unable to boot. If so, that means you need to get your wallet out.

And, What about the CD - RW thing? It should say DVD so thats something.


I checked and it said my IDe Controller is fine.

There's going to be 2 big wide IDE cables joining the HDD and CD-ROM to the motherboard. Unplug both on the motherboard side, plug them in opposite slots and see if anything works.
