Skt 939 V Am2- Cache Memory

I have the opportunity of upgrading from a skt 939 AMD X2 4400+ to a skt AM2 X2 4600+. I have no input into the processor choice.

My question is whether it will be worthwhile me doing so- obviously there is the benefit of being able to run DDR2 memory, but hasn’t AMD throttled back the L2 cache from 1MB to 512KB? If so, would this negate any DDR2 benefits?

Nope, amd procs don't really benefit that much from the extra cache. I really doubt you'll notice a difference by switching to the new proc+ram.

well i ran a 3500+ S939 and decided to take the plunge to DDR2 and coreduo. So far i havnt regretted it.

Its not worth changing to AM2 but Core duo is wortht he money in performance. Especially with my evga 680i its a worth while upgrade.

More cache the better i always think, i have 4mb cache and my E6600 will OC to 3.2ghz on air cooling.
