Yeah, the 7300 would only be good if you were really on a budget.

      ok, so 6800 it is.

now some of you say i should get more ram first, other that i need the card first. given that i can run the game (albeit on low settings) quite happily with my current card, but i do get stutters and lag, surely ram would be the better option first?

What video card do you currently have? We need to know that to suggest which should be the priority.

            Very true.

You're going to want the GT version, pci-e obviously. Quick check on ebay shows a couple ending in the next day or two and currently at <$30.

Overclockers has a 6800gs in stock, but gs models are handicapped.

Ooooooh...someone is selling an ultra, too.

Might still consider saving and buying a new 7600gt. Not a whole lot more, the better tech more than makes up for the pipeline/memory interface shortcomings compared to the 6800, and the best reason of all is the warranty with a new 7600gt that you don't get from a video card coming from Joe's Ebay Garage. Having said that, I've always had good luck with stuff I've gotten off ebay.

my current card is an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE, which is why i'm so desperate to replace, although im not sure if its my priority, so i hope you can tell me...

also, when i do come to reaplce the card as i'm on such a budget will THIS be a good option? I had a look for the 6800, no joy yet, but i'll do a better search in a minute....

EDIT:: The card i linked to doesn't say it's compatible with vista, but it would wouldn't it? stupid question, but i dont know much about this backwards compatibility stuff....

Do NOT run vista with vey little RAM like you do now.

The 6150 is on-board so you should upgrade you Video card before anything else. But i would still suggest to upgrade both ur video card and RAm, at the same time.

yeah, i didnt have a choice sadly on the OS - i wasn't around the the pc was ordered. I'm hoping to be able to do that so i might try and order a card and ram tonight. I read somewhere that performance was down on some games with vista compared to xp, surely with DX10, that isn't the case?

You need a DX 10 compatible video card to run DX10. And games like BF2 are DX9 only. For best performance you will need 2gb of RAM.

i already have dx10 on my current card, surely any upgrade will run it too? i can only get 1gb of ram first, which will give me 1.5 overall, more later though

Your 6150 is NOT dx10, AMD/ATI are the only ones that have made a dx10 on-board video so far. The 8800 series are the only dx10 video cards.

When i went to dxdiag, it tells me i am using DX10..... is it on there and just not being used? in this case, should i overwrite it with dx9?

I know for a fact that you DO NOT have DX10... you might be mistaking it with something else.

If yuor budget really is tight you could look for a second hand card such as this 7600gt (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/nvidia-7600gt-...QQcmdZViewItem)

well, dxdiag told me i was using it im sure.... i think i'd struggle to mix it up wth something else...
