Game crashes to desktop when I try to start single player.

here are my system specs.

BFG Geforce 7600GT
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (2.2GHz)
2GB Corsair RAM (PC 3200)
Windows XP Pro x64

Now, I just bought this game today, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't need a reinstall, but when I load the game, everything goes fine until I try to start a single player game. It says "Starting Server", then the screen goes black and I'm back at my desktop.

Something worth noting, at the end of the install, it said something about it couldn't install DirectX 9, even though I have it on my computer already all patched up.

I'm worried that maybe because I have the x64 version of windows it won't let me play, but reading these forums, that doesn't seem to be an issue. (also the nvidia "will it play" thing said it would work)

any thoughts on this? I appreciate your help.

Have you installed the latest 1.41 patch?

Sounds like it didn't install properly. It CTDs at that stage mostly because:

a) Some setting is wrong somewhere, such as a refresh rate, video detail setting, something wrong in the game files (set a heli's speed to 50000 and it crashes)

b) Your cd-key isn't in the registry

c) DICE sucks (this tends to occur in all cases, for unknown reasons)

Tried that. twice. here's what I get every time.



it says "installation was completed successfully" then after the gamespy install, it does that.

EDIT: oh, dur hur, maybe I should update my video card drivers eh?
