Disconnects every 4:20

We're using dsl at a motel, and it works good, but the game always disconnects after about 4 minutes and 20 seconds. It happens on both computers, but one usually disconnects a few seconds after the other. The internet connection doesn't disconnect at this time.

The first computer is a P4 2.8e 478 on an asus motherboard, 2 gigs ddr 400, geforce 6600 agp, and a raptor 36 gig sata. The game was just reinstalled.

The other is a compaq AMD 3200, 512 megs ddr 333, ATI AIW 9800pro agp, patched up from the beginning.

It might just be a crappy motel internet connection, designed to prevent gaming or big porn downloads that take up bandwidth.

Supposedly it used to be the "code" for marijuana used by police officers.

It's more than likely a safe guard against things that take up too much bandwidth, like a previous poster mentioned.

I've had it happened to me before too, also in a hotel. After every 4 minutes and 30 seconds, my net connection would drop for 30 seconds, then reconnect. I asked the people at the front desk about it, and they said like I said above. That was with the free internet. The lady told me that I could pay for the "upgrade" and receive unlimited time.

I fear you are right about this. I asked the people at the front desk but they didnn't know anyting about it. One lady said that her husband plays games online here all night, but she didn't say what games. Does anyone know where such a diservice would be implemented?

The place has a small server or it is in the router settings.


Would not be installed by the ISP .. an internal device is needed.
Generally, if the place did the job itself it prob has a router.
Most people never truly config the thing and make it easy to use.
so login would be prob admin PW could be th emost general logical word. ( prob not a phrase.)

this post does NOT say however to try this under any situation as I am sure the managment would be Very unhappy. And 420 is the universal smoke time. it made me login here :/
