Hi all, I've got a bit of a dilemma

Basically in a few days i've got the choice of either buying a bigger monitor OR a new graphics card.

Currently I have a Hyundai L72D TFT and I was thinking of either an ASUS 19" TFT like:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asus-vw192-Wid...QQcmdZViewItem
    Or an equivalent DELL.

    OR
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EVGA-nVidia-Ge...QQcmdZViewItem
To replace my XFX7800GTX, which is fine btw :)

    Only, I can't afford both
I was wondering because I only sit about 18inches away from my monitor and don't want to end up like Mr Magoo!! Although my eldest would appreciate the monitor i'm using now.

Any input would be greatfully received,

    Thanks :)

PS Which monitor would be better? The ASUS or a DELL ?

You'll waste the potential of the 8800GTX with that current monitor, so get the new one, and wait for the ATI R600 which will hopefully drive down the prices so much that you can sell the 7800GTX and nab both a monitor and GFX card.

Yea go for the monitor... and when you get round to buying a graphics card, buy a basic 8800gtx and cooler and overclock it yourself.

The monitor would be my choice. You can make that last for 2-3-maybe 4 years, well beyond the time when an 8800gtx will be remembered as being a complete piece of system-overheating trash.

Meh, I'll stick to CRTs. Can't stand LCDs, as I've found out.

Nowdays LCD's can have the same sort of image quality as a CRT and plus they have useful features such as "Night mode" which helps when playing night maps of SF. There is no need to aware nightvision goggles.

Then there's the cost factor. A screen like that is costing £200-£400 whereas a CRT displaying 1920x1440@85Hz costs... £40.

One of the biggest things for me was the space saving.

Yeah, go for the monitor. You'll be glad you did. Your card is good enough. There should be a price drop on current 8800's in the near future so you can upgrade that later.
