To all you fellow vista users I need help. I was wondering if I can disable all these security requests? It does it for almost all of my most used programs such as xfire,ventrilo and even BF2 and 2142. If anybody can answer my question it would be great help :)

Yeh, I too get annoyed by all the Security Requests. I think you can disable them somehow, I'll look into it.

Click start search msconfig and press enter, click tools highlight disbale UAC and press launch.

hi im new here, and since I just started i figured since this is a vista thread you could help me?

i just got my computer and its:

Intel® Core ™ CPU 6300 @ 1.86 GHz
1GB Dual Channel ramz0rz
256 MB ATI Radeon X1300 PRO
OS is Windows Vista Home Premium

i know those are not the best specs ever, but they arent that bad either. When i play singleplayer, i can run it on LOW and play lag free, but multiplayer it starts getting choppy.

my brother tried it on his computer, which he says has lower specs (he got it in 2005), and he can run it on HIGH on multiplayer, but he has windows XP.

am i lagging because of Windows Vista or my computer just sucks? would adding another 1GB of ram help any?

ok right click on the bf2 shortcut and run as administor.

Secondly Make sure you EVERY uptodate drivers availible for you graphics and sound etc. As my FPS increased alot with the latest nvidia release. Also 2gb of ram will make your pc alot quicker as on my version of vista its using 900mb even before ive started playing!

Things from a Vista User.

On the Shortcut right click and select Properties. - Now goto the compatability tab and tick "Run as Administrator" and use the compability mode of Windows XP (Service Pack 2). This should sort security issues.

Vista issues.

Nvidia are issuing beta drivers and first release vista drivers so you will have issues. So you are going to have to be patient and wait for main releases and updates to fix these. Here is a list of graphics and other issues I have had while playing BF2 and other games.

Skins start to fail showing the wire frames on scenary
Weapons become invisible
At the end of game the whole PC will lock for 20 seconds while it loads the results screens.
One first joining while the game loads nearly 1.4Gb into RAM it lags a bit but when you die and respawn this lagging goes.
If an xfire screen pops up or another app minimizes BF2 the whole graphics start to corrupt and the PC needs a reboot.
Vista has a nasty habbit of loading stuff into memory and not clearing down i.e. Internet explorer. If you have been running the PC for a while and want to game reboot first to clear memory you WILL need as much memory as possible. 2Gb of ram is OK but 4Gb will fly with Vista.
In game voice is hit and miss with Realtek audio drivers use another application as a lot of voice is problatmatic due to driver issues.

Basically the Vista drivers running the PC are flakey as hell at the moment. Wait 6 months for the manufactures to fix issues before taking the vista leap.

My current Rig of AMD 5200+, 4Gb Ram, Dual 7900GT Graphics will need updating at the end of the year to cope with Vista as the new OS is the worst memory hog of an OS I have ever seen.

Funny that other OS's can release system memory after an application has been closed including the MS server software. If vista leaves chunks of data in memory so you cannot use other application later in the day it's a memory hog. Strange how I never had this issue on top end UNIX systems, linux systems I think I know just a little more than the average user. And Microsoft isn't known for writing hardware friendly OS's all there OS's are poor incomparison to proper systems. I have spent a life time dealing with badly written MS software.

I don't know whats wrong with your copy of vista, but at boot it always hovers around 50% for me, the second I launch anything it always drops down so that the program can have access to the ram. Even when I'm playing bf2 it hovers around 60-70% used, the second I quit it drops down to 15%, then goes back up to 50% as vista precaches the programs I use most often.

Who gets to decide whats a proper os? You?

BigJon, something is DEFINITELY wrong with your PC. Mine has been on day-in-day-out for weeks on end with Vista loaded and guess what - BF2 works fine no matter how long it's on.

And no, there's no memory hogging either.

It's high time an OS actually used the resources on a PC when they were sitting idle.

More HELP needed please. I was also wondering if I can diable that window that first pops up when I log into windows, to be more specific the window that shows my Computer's specs. THANKS ALOT
