ok well im just about ready to get a new computer and i was thinking somehting like this the $999 one and ill probably coustomize it alittle bit.
Could it run BF2 on high graphics and be able to run like TS and fraps and stuff without laggin up evey where?

What kind of customisation are you planning on doing?

I have my doubts about that video card and the memory.

When I had 1gb ram BF2 used to stutter even at medium details, all stuttering went away by increasing it to 1.5gb ram.

That video card looks like a low end model not designed for serious gaming from looking at it's specifications, and I doubt you'd be able to run BF2 on high details on it without stuttering.

I notice that the monitor is analogue too. When I had a 19" flatscreen I tried both the analogue and digital connections and for watching movies and gaming the analogue connection suffered from a lot of ghosting while the digital connection did not.

None of those apart from the XPS will even be able to run BF2 on anything other than all low, 640x480.

For that price a custom is a must.

BF2 is like 2 years old, any system to come out now should be able to run it fine.

The only component that lets you down on all of those systems is the GFX card, a 7300LE is very poor. You want atleast a 6600GT or a 7600GT.

Ok.. anyone got an recomendations then? im not going to do any custom built ones. I was gona get an Imac but theres a few problems there with windows from what i hurd.. (no i wanst getting it just to play games on [talking about the imac])

That system will run bf2, but not on high settings. You at least need to double the ram, to better run vista, and play bf2. You want at least a 6800 for video, I have one, and I still wont run bf2 at max. No way will you run bf2 on all high settings, unless you spend 3 times that, or go custom build. Sorry, but a $1000 Dell ain't runnin bf2 at max.

There's really a problem with people. What Dell or any other brand does: They buy hardware in huge batches as cheap as possible, probably make custom parts by removing unnecessary (and expensive) chips, customize bios and software so that no-one can mod it afterwards, bundle crap software from those who pay the most for Dell and so on and still sells them for more expensive than custom built. What goes wrong here is the fact that someone still buys them. I can't believe it.

Ah, you're in kind of the situation I was when I was planning on buying a pre-built. Usually dell are very expensive computers for their specs. If you're planning on buying a pre-built, try the HP.

I was very busy last April when I did my last build (specs below pics at my website).

I considered *gasp* having it built. I crunched the numbers at many sites and came up with two that had the lowest mark ups.

CyberPower INc.

I Buypower

Both are listed at Nvidia as trusted certified builders. I personally haven't bought a system from them, but my a friend just got one from CyberPower and so far he's happy with it. The prices could vary by now, but just about a year ago, they had the most reasonable "mark up".


Nvidias Trusted Builders List Has a list of other builders including the two I mentioned.

They get pretty steep in price. The Voodoos, the Falcon Northwest's have a huge markup. But Velocity Micro was reasonable, although more expensive, it was a better quality build for the money.

I'm not endorsing any particular one and would always suggest you build on your own. But figured I point you in the right direction.

The last few years there's been a surge of custom builders to meet the needs of gamers, there are more choices the Dell and GateWay for buying a customized computer.

Do some research or asking around in other forums and buy wisely.

actually, get the gt $119 after a $25 rebate and it's only 75mhz slower than the pro. Both run circles around the 7600 series and they are almost as good as the 7900gt for a lot less money and lower power requirements.

Only problem I could potentially see is that you'd have to make sure the card will fit, and you might have add a fan to keep things in the case cool. Those are the issues you run into when you go prebuilt, though.
