DVD Drives not reading, please help!!

I have searched and couldn't find anything, so here goes....

Played BF2 last night, finished and shut down my PC, all well and good.

Went to play for a while this morning, and got this:


WTF?!?!? I though, so I put the disk in my other drive and got the same thing.
So I though, ok, i'll try something else, so I put a film DVD into my drive, the icon in my computer changed from DVD-RW drive, to CD Drive and says "please insert a **** into drive ..." when I click on it. Same happens with the other DVD drive, no matter what disk I put in. They will eject using the right-click menu but for some reason, BOTH of my DVDRW drives have stopped reading overnight, with the PC shut down:cussing:.
They get seen by BIOS during start up but windoze has decided (in my best interest of course) that they shouldn't read anymore, which means no more BF2.

I am currently attempting to download a BIOS update from ASUS from Taiwan in case that helps.
The only thing i've done this morning is to install new graphics drivers, but i've rolled those back in desperation to no avail.

ASUS P5LND2 Deluxe.
P4 3.6
2 Gig Ram (DDR2)
74 Gig Raptor C:
300 Gig D:
XFX7800GT PCIe

NEC ND-3520A DL

Erm, don't know what else info to give guys, hope this is enough :hmm:

Daemon Tools matey... Should have used a mini-image in the first place.


Uninstal and reinstall the drivers from Device Manager, that should hopefully fix it. If not, you need to check all IDE cables are in and check your BIOS settings are correct.

Won't even read Virtual drives!!

Thats really odd man......how long have you been using your DVD Drives? and have you ever seen this problem before? If you have been using them for a while and it worked fine, I would suggest reinstalling the bios from the disk that came with your motherboard. See if that works, if not try the update.

Also it could be an OS problem. I doubt it, but its deff. possible if you say that it will not read any virtual drives. Try windows update, it can't hurt and it takes a minute. Most likey this isn't the case, but it will help with the new bios update.

When I built my comp, I had to install SATA drivers after installing the OS and the bios. Do you have the disk that came with your motherboard? If you do reinstall those drivers. Thats most likely your problem. I tried to look up your motherboard but could not find it online.

So I would make sure the SATA cables are firmly connected, update windows, reinstall BIOS, then reinstall SATA drivers. This should work. It doesn't sound like to serious of a problem. Good luck man.

Its no use, its proper fecked.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, plugging into different places, different drive letters, firmware, drivers, rollback, removal + restart + shutdown + install + restart. I've got them to read boot disks (2 types of windows) but when I get to the bit when it says starting windows (from the CD) I get BSOD every time. Won't read disks at all in windows, even virtual drives.
I don't think its the mobo because the drives are recognised and boot disks run fine until windows takes over (they are shown in my computer still).
