Video settings

i'v been playing battlefield for a month or so now (only weekends DX) and pretty much everytime i play i have lag at 90 or greater which get's really annoying. I use to think it's because my parents watch tv off the internet but i think i'm probably wrong now. So in my quest to reduce lag what should i set my video settings to be less laggy but still look decent?
(i usually run teamspeak, xfire, and aim while i play. Verizon dsl for internet)

system specs:
Intel Core 2 duo 6700 (2.66GHz)
2GB ram (800MHz)
Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT

Also how do you find the fps and should i bother overclocking my system because to me it seems like my computer can run alot faster than my internet

Your video card is holding your computer back hella bad. The most that card can do this low. Put all your settings on low and put your rez a little bit high so it can look a little decent. But you really need to get a new card. Everything else is superb

yea i kinda cheapened out on the card but probably wont be getting a new one anytime soon, hopefully win one in a contest or something *fingers crossed*

Considering that the 7300gt performs almost exactly like a 6600gt, the best you will be able to do is all medium 800x600 (maybe 1024x768), no aa or af.

I don't mean to be rude, but why in the hell did you spend an additional $200+ on the e6700 instead of the e6600(which is 97% equal performance-wise in gaming)?

Now you've screwed yourself from playing any game with any kind of quality graphic setting with that low-end(movie watchers) video card.

Again, I appologize for being an *******, but hopefully this post will remain with you for years to come for your next purchase.

Next time, but the VIDEO CARD first...then with whatever money you have left over you choose your CPU etc etc etc. You don't need the best card out there(today it's the 8800gtx), but at the very least you needed to spend around $250-350 on a video card, considering the amount you spent on just the CPU.

You bought a Ferrari...with a 1.8L Toyota Corrola engine. Card first, then everything else.

processor was like a company promo, my dad works for intel so he got the
e6700 for half off. and i didnt do much research on vid cards and picked it by randomish

I'd have gotten it in that circumstance too.

There is only one thing that will help you, and that is more money. ATI cards will arrive in May, and nVidias 8600($150-250) series should be out by then too.

By that time you should be able to save a couple hundred, otherwise your computer is just a CD/DVD burner with that 7300 unfortunately.

Better idea - sell that E6700 to some poor sucker/rich f*cker and get an E6600, and OC it to 4GHz. It's exactly the same chip with 1x off the FSB multiplier.

Use the money that you get to buy an 8800 or an R600 series card.

Why do you run all that crap in the backround when you play online? I dont know how good/relaible DSL is because I pay the extra money for cable internet.

Don't listen to this crap, your card isn't that bad. I'm still using the 6600GT/PCie and I have no lag,no problems, but yes, mostly medium settings.

The OP, is asking about LAG, not which Video Card to buy. It can't be JUST his videocard, unless he's trying to play on all HIGH settings, which the OP never states. My system is very similiar to his, and I rarely experience Lag when playing, it must be something else.

No offence to previous posters, just my observation from someone with similiar system(Mobo,Ram,Graphics card).

Actually, it most likely is his video card. What I find funny is that software rendering would probably be faster on his PC.

Yes it was an overstatement, but only a slight one. The point being is that no one should have a $500+ CPU and a $100 GPU...doesn't make sense.

Also, your 6600gt is a better card than a 7300gt. The 6600 was a middle card, 7300 was and still is a low end card. Different categories of performance from day one of their introductions.

Yes, it IS just his video card, therefore my original statement stands: CD/DVD burning is that comps highlight at the moment. Gaming is just a second thought until he gets a new card, specifically one in the middle or high end level, not a low end.

6200/6300/7200/7300 - low end
6600/7600 - middle
6800/7800/7900 - high end

8800 - high end
8600 - middle(coming soon)
8200/8300 - low(coming soon?)

x300 - low
x600 - middle
x800 - high

x1300 - low
x1600/1650 - middle
x1800/1850/1900/1950 - high end

A low end card from the newer generation doesn't mean it is better than the middle level older cards. In fact, this almost never occurs.

Low end is low end, not meant for gaming. They are meant for games to be able to start, and that's about all. If any setting is set to low, why bother playing IMO? Especially when a $500 CPU sits inches away?

It is all about the GPU, not the CPU. I'd rather have a Pentium D or Athlon XP with an 8800gts 320mb over any CPU or CPU's in the world with a 7300gt if I planned to play games beyond Playstation 1/2 graphics.
