need help installing windows professional

hey my friend is trying to install windows professional on his computer, but he isnt really sure about how to go about it. when he puts the cd in it says that this version of windows must be installed by booting off the cd, please reboot the computer with CD in drive.
but when he does this nothing happens and it starts normally

That means he needs to set the cd drive as the first boot device. After doing that the first thing that will come up is 'Press any key to boot from cd". Might want to have him read this,

Just use the BIOS boot menu instead of changing the order.

yeah its alot easyer to change the boot setting in BIOS

the first thing to try is tapping the spacebar as soon as you start booting. sometimes you need to press a key in order to boot from the cd.

start pc, press delete key, (could be another see bottom of screen) to enter bios, once in bios, look for boot menu and set your cd as device 1, hard drive as device 2, press f10 to save and exit, make sre windows cd is in drive, it should say press a key to boot from cd, so press a key and voila it should start the install of xp, follow any on screen prompts...

Most computers will give you the boot menu if you press F10 or F12 while it is booting up!!! (Just like F8 Safemode, you will get a menu but this one will ask you which device you wish to boot from) Pick your CD Drive.

Some systems by pressing F10 or F12 will say....to bood off CD press any key....

Once you boot to CD: Do a CLEAN Install of XP
Delete Current Partition
Create Partition on C:
Format Newly Created Partition
Install XP on Fresh Partition
