Problem is that it runs about 30fps w/ few people/no people on all low settings w/ med textures. But when i get into a 64 player map and really get into the thick of battle w/ tons of people everywhere my comp slows down to about 20fps, less sometimes.

The game is playable, but i'm just dying to get it consistant. I've heard of people w/ my video card w/ everything running high, so i'm thinking it could be my processor.

I know where to get an athlon 64 3000+ w/ mobo for cheap so i'm wondering if it will make a big difference. Also what else could i do to get the top performance out of my rig?

    Thanks a bunch.
Dude I ran a similar setup to yours for a VERY long time. The AMD Athlon XP processor, well in particular the Barton core 3200+ 400fsb was a great processor, and I still have a few lying around in case of an emergency I can slap together a 32-bit system. Just to give you a focal point, my old setup was: DFI Lanparty NF2 Ultra mobo, AMD Athlon XP 3200+, 2Gb DDR corsair platinum 667MHz, with a BFG tech 7800 gt-oc. With a custom water-cooled integrated case, I ran BF2 with no problems. The only reason I switched over to a 64-bit system is because I ran into what I wanted for the right price. With Moore's Law, literally every 18 months something new and improved with surpass what we all already own. But I will say that AGP-interfaced video cards are becoming harder and harder to find. PCI-e and technology like ATI crossfire and Nvidia SLI are going to permanently extinguish AGP, and its only a matter of time. But I was one of those choosen few who held on as long as I could, but switching over to a PCI-e interface video and 64-bit process was an inevitability I could'nt pass up. But definitely with that Barton core 3200+, some good memory for overclocking and a solid motherboard you can play just about any game with no problems.

One thing I want to know is: why am I getting low FPS with this rig? It's fine offline, even with 64 player maps in single player filled with bots. Once I get online, I dip all the way to 30s sometimes...

Thats a really good system...It has to be something with your firewall or router. Its deff not your comp. Turn your firewall off and see if it helps.

Your internet. of course the game will run good in singleplayer because youre not playing on an actual server.

No, if it IS his processor that is bottlenecking, on a single player this would be far, far worse because his PC has to act as a server and client at the same time, and simulate bots.

It's probably Punkbuster needing an update.

I took my router/firewall out of the equation. I manually updated PB. I play on Korean servers with 50-80 ping. My internet isn't SUPER fast, but should be fast enough. Down is 1.5Mb, up is 150Kb. That was tested using a server in California, I couldn't find one in Korea that I can read...
