No worky after reinstall?

Yeh... When I first installed BF2 (Deluxe), I had screwed up the patch and decided to do a clean install since the game didn't work online. It ran fine in singleplayer.

So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and I always get a splash screen and crash to desktop after I try to run it.

I have now reinstalled the game 4 times, and repatched, AND I got fresh copies of both the 200 and 500MB patches, trying both. Neither works.

So is there a fix for this? If I can't get it to run again I'm just taking it back (as much as I don't want to).

Oh, and BTW, I deleted all shortcuts, profiles, cache... EVERYTHING after every uninstall. And my system is fully compatible.

Rest of specs would be helpful.

Likely you've got something running in the background, or your antivirus is mucking up your install.

You said you applied 200mb and 1/2gb patches--I'm hoping one of those said something like 1.41 on it? :)

I had the roughest time getting BF2+SF up an running several months ago. What I did was to disable everything but the bare minimum in my msconfig startup profile, and then disable all non-MS services (still in my msconfig profile), reboot, and then it worked.

Same thing happened with the Oblivion content I bought--only thing that worked was a clean boot with nothing except the bare freakin' minimum humming on the pc.

That's some pitiful code. And thanks for responding. Here's my specs:

128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
2.0 GHz Dell something (Pentium)
Wired to router
SigmaTel Audio (compatible)
Fast DVD drive (Though the game is on 5 CDs)

I have McAfee running which may be the problem. Never had a problem with it though. Because when I install anything nothing comes up.

And yes, both the patches were v1.41.

Honestly, your major problem playing the game will be that your laptop's components fall below some of the minimum system requirements:

Not many people are able to get it running on a 9200 in a desktop, so it's probably going to be even more difficult to get it going on a lappy. When you said "that was some pitiful code", are you unsure as how to access your MSCONFIG console? And why pitiful? I thought it very dam spectacular, myself. :)

click start-->hit run-->type msconfig-->hit enter key

This will bring up your msconfig profile. You can click on the "start up" tab at the top to stop extraneous programs (uncheck them) from loading, and click on the services tab, then click on the "exclude MS services box" to see what extraneous things are running, and disable them.

Then you reboot (it should go much faster), it will tell you that you're using selective startup, say that's ok, and then try and patch.

And...the bad news is that's probably not even going to work. That mobility 9000 is designed for spreadsheets and memoranda. You can play games like Civ III, Shadow Magic, and (probably) Morrowind (medium-ish settings, too, pro'ly) on it, but a heavily 3D, modern, fully DX9.0b optimized game like BF2 is asking more than your lappy can give it.

Yea... I'm not sure if i mentioned it, but I DID get the game running and SMOOTH in singleplayer in all med-high settings. It's not the graphics card, just some crappy problem in their script.

EDIT: OH MY GODDDD.

I did ALL of that, removede all traces of BF2 from the registry, uninstalled, restarted computer with minimal processes, reinstalled, applied patch, AND IT STILL WILL NOT START! (tried without patch as well)

WHY ME?!

NOTHING will make this stop! I've tried everything! It only worked the FIRST time I installed it, and I screwed up the patch so I wanted a clean install! AND NOW IT WONT EVEN FRICKING START! WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? This is just FRICKING SCREWY!

Does NOBODY have a fix for this?
