    laaaaaaagggggggg

    hello
i have recently been getting heavy lag during bf2. im sure everyone knows the normal hard drive noise when its doing something (and also the little loading light bleeps on your pc) well everytime im playing bf2 i lag for half a second every second and during that half second my hardrive is making that noise, i dont know wtf its loading, but i have only 4 backround processes, the others are for system and local service.nothing else running not even msn.its wierd, i turned my v settings to low but same prob, i monitored my graphic card temp and it hit 70 during bf2 (nvidia geforce 7300 LE) in my other posts i mentioned slow start ups, i was told to defragment my drive, and so that didnt help.i have 2 gigs ram and 1 gig is always free when playing bf2, also got a PT 4 3.06GHZ processor(2 cpu's) i needd to know whats causing this asap because i have a clan match at 7:30 UK time today and i dont want to let my clan mates down
    THANKS!

You have more than 4 processes running in the background, press ctrl-alt-del and tell us exactly how many u have.

Also have you had a virus scan, adware, malware, spyware scan lately?
I use adaware, spybot, avg free.

Defrag your HDD, do a chkdisk, do a system clean up, open my computer, then select your drive(s) right click properties, disk cleanup. You can also cleanup the system restore, but will have to make a new restore point afterwards. PS this usually makes the PC run much faster.

have you contacted your ISP? there maybe faults on the line.

Sounds like it is writing to the page file whilst you are playing. Therefore, turn down your graphics, especially geometry, make sure no background tasks are running.

That GFX card is very weak and is not even supported by BF2, but that doesn't mean it wont play it even on LOW.

you should check your connections and such does this happen during all games or is it just bf2? try to scan for spyware and viruses and see if that helps if nothing works try to reinstall and repatch

In your Documents folder is your BF2 folder go there delete anything in the mods/bf2/cache folder so as to reoptimize your video ingame.

Next delete everthing in the logocache folder.

Then go to your profile folder and clean up your general.con file, to do this open with notepad and delete every line that begins with:

                GeneralSettings.addServerHistory

tonic and wife beater are right, your card sucks and should only run on low and the cache is good to delete every now and then, ya loose all info ie login name and password plus vid settings, control settings pretty much everything except the game but can almost garantee it will run better after

                      From http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_3.html

Clearing Shader Optimizations: When you change the graphical settings or install a new patch, BF2 attempts to optimize the shaders used in the game for the best performance on your particular hardware. These optimized files are stored in your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2.

hmmm i shal try that, my hardrive is new, it shouldnt be doing this. but if its possible i need to find out what the feck its doing.....and it only happens on air maps- 2 gig of ram is more than enough. and btw you said you have 13 processes, i have about 42, if you can help me turn it down to 13, i have loads of system and local sservice processes. i will try post a screen shot to show you, and svhost.exe uses 36,908K and PQV2iSvc.exe uses 24,452K the rest are 9000K and under so if its safe to end it tell me. thanks
