Sounds like you may need different gfx drivers or your card is overheating

Goto the nvidia site & dload the 84.21 driver

      Agree with above.

Check that the an is working and that it is not filled up with crap, plus use a temperature monitoring tool to keep an eye over whats happening.

If thats OK, i wouldn't reinstall the graphics drivers. Do this by uninstalling the old ones using a proper driver cleaning tool (Can't remember the name but someone else will post it i'm sure) and then reinstall the latest.

Just in case, do the normal virus/adware scans, defrag your HD etc...

well i did installed the 84.21 driver, but couldnt find a driver cleaner for free so i just installed that new driver (hope thats not bad)...and played a little singleplayer on medium settings with dynamic lighting and filtering and another setting turned off and it seemed to run fine, but then i had green pixles appear (this has happened before and it just means i need to restart...), otherwise its fine. lets hope i can play for hours on end withour problem :)

Sounds like your gfx card is overheating, any chance u can take it back to the suppliers for a refund or to swap for another card. If not your screwed, see it could be a faulty card. You could buy an aftermarket cooler for it but if you still get pixels and artifacts on the screen you defo need to get rid of the card.

i got this card from a friend and it ran fine with him and with me for several months. its all fine now, i cleaned the fan (there was a crud load of dust). but my biggest problem is still getting lag. i have everything on medium with some of unnecessary things turned off or low, and i am still getting a little bit of lag. i should also point out that i am playing Project Reality mod 0.5. i hear that the maps are really big and cause a bit of lag, but i dont hear people complaining like i am tho :/ its horrible...

your ram is bad, BF2 uses alot of ram so more wont hurt plus try deleting your BF2 folder in "my documents" this can help with lag

Not your main BF2 folder. Madmunkess is talking about here: \my documents\battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\"delete all these files"

you can also do that with your other mods\

...and 1gb with a 6800xt should run BF2 very well. A little stuttering at the beginning of a round, but otherwise you should be able to get smooth (+30 fps) video out of your setup.

Do you have unwanted programs running in the background? Crupola in the taskbar? Adobe stealing your cycles?

well i deleted the files in the my documents\battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ folder and turned my graphics all up to high except the antiscoptic-filtering which is at 0 but i am still getting a ton of lag, even after playing for 20 mins and killing myself (it usually died down or stops after i die or after sone time) people are saying that i should be able to run bf2 perfectly with all settings at high...this is getting really frustrating >

As a rule, don't trust people. People buy lottery tickets, people drive without seat belts, and--above all--people like to hear themselves talk and try to convince you they've got more than two neurons to rub together in that vacuum resting on their shoulders.

A 6600gt is a good card, and it will deliver solid fps with a mixture of medium and low, and high where it counts (100% view, geometries to max). That's because it has fast clocks--~500/1000mhz (depending on your specific model) core/memory speed, respectively--so it will drive your frames well at a decent resolution. However, it is not a relatively advanced architecture, meaning when you start cranking up the eyecandy, your performance tanks dramatically.

It will not run BF2 on "all high".

                            Nowhere near it.

Stop trying; you'll just end up frustrated.

Advice? Put your settings on as low as possible, read the BF2 optimization guide at www.tweakguides.com and adjust your settings upward after you get a good idea of what will cause your performance to suffer, and what sort of frame rates you are willing to live with.

One thing you might look at is what your AGP aperture is set at in your bios settings. Make sure it is either 128 or 256, and make sure to try them both. It is possible it is set ridiculously low, causing you some headaches.

edit: once you solve your issues with the 6600gt and find the setting that will allow you get the most fps with "right" amount of eye-candy you're happy with, consider slapping a really good cooler on that card and turning things up a bit. 6600gt's are great cards for overclocking from what I understand (source: not just "people"...my people. :) )
