Vista Partitioning --- Recommended Size

I am ordering a new PC tomorrow and I decided that I'd rather have the shop build it for me. I am having them build my new pc with a 320 GB hard drive. I heard that the hard drive can be partitioned during the installation of windows. I would love to be able to have 1 partition for windows and then 1 for everything else. I was wondering what the recommended size for a vista partition would be. I’m thinking something like 30GB maybe 25GB. This way the setup would be:

-Drive C 30GB --- All Vista Files
-Drive Z 290GB --- Everything else (programs etc.)

If you know what the recommended size for a vista partition is please let me know. It would be extremely helpful as Google is turning up nothing.

Even 20GB is good enough for Vista. I'd say 30Gb would be about right, gives a lot of room for growth. Basically, what you will have to do is log in from a different windows OS, or from a recovery console (vista CD/DVD has it) that supports NTFS, copy over the program files and documents folders to the largest partition, and then create symlinks to them in the original directory (use junction - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Junction.mspx).

I'd recommend you split it up into more partitions, or even better, use logical volumes, because defragmenting that 290gb is going to be a B*TCH and a half.

30 sounds OK. It will however get filled with a lot of waste. I partitioned mine to have 10 for OS and programs and the rest for the games and stuff, however I have a hell of a lot of problems with downloadin bigger filed and I cant even empty my Internet Temporary files.

Personally. Get yourself a 70 (30?) GB disk for programs and games, and another 200 one for data storage.

Exactly why are you guys partitioning your OS and programs/games on a different drive. That makes absolutely no sense when you go to reinstall your OS you'll also need to redo your programs/games because you'll lose your registry.

Drive C: 70Gb OS/Programs/Games
Drive Z: 250Gb all other files you can't loose on a reinstall ex:
Pictures, videos, music, patches, program/game install files etc.
