    what happened...

ok so i switch on my computer today....and at the point where Windows is supposed to start up, a black screen came on saying some error message like:

    WINDOWS/system32/config/system

    file is missing or corupt

.....then it said to insert the Windows XP cd and repair it by pressing R on the first screen, so i did this, then it asked me to put in the number of what installation i wanted, which i didnt know, so i just pressed any number, then asked me for an admin password, when i did my usual one it said it was wrong, then it just restarted and went to the normal log in Windows screen.

So i logged in as u do, went to the system32 folder etc. and clicked properties on the system file it named. In the virus property thing it says 'this file does not exist or u do not have permission to view it', and it says it was modified on todays date.

Well that was a lot to get through and i have no idea what happened or what to do about it.....any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks :)

The disk you put in was it a set of recovery disk or a actual windows repair disk? Do you use any kind of registry cleaner ive seen these programs cause this problem. Also if you still have your partition on your hard drive you should be able to recover from that....

It was just the Windows XP installation disc that i got with the computer.....and yeah i did a system restore to the 18th of Feb, i can log in and all that is fine, but the file still says 'this file does not exist or u do not have permission to view it' when i click on properties.

I did format my computer the other week cos i had some virus crap i just wanted to get rid of, everything was running fine after that, nah i dont use any registry cleaners.
