Help w/AMD Gaming rig

Hello everyone. Well, heres the plan: Custom-build a reliable, high end Gaming Pc (Prefferably AMD>Intel). It must be able to: Play BF2 on a 64 Player server, on 100% max video settings, without any noticable drops in FPS or decreased performance. The budget: $2000, and @ most, 2500. Stuff to exclude from the order (I have it already or can get it easily and avoid spending extra $$$$ that I dont need to waste): Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers, Soundcard, Operating System, Gaming Headset, DVD drive, CD drive, DVD Burner, CD Burner, and Floppy drives.

I would preffer to have some responses from people that have tried and confirmed the performance of their suggestions, but if you are positive you know how it will perform, suggest it anyway. Thank you all for your help :)
Also, I would really appreciate it if you could provide full hardware item names, because say for example you tell me to get a AMD+3200 CPU, i will have no idea which model to get, so specifics would be very helpful. Thanks again:)

sorry if this is to blunt but at the current time Intel>AMD, Intels Conroe chips out perform AMD's at present but ill try to spec you a AMD sytem if you still want it?

ok this pc has a 600% of runing BF2 64 players on high settings and a decent fps with no lag at all as my friend has the exact same hardware as i built for him :)

SpungE, I read some stuff about the products. Few Q&A's: I have never OC'd something before, and it says the CPU is for overclocking if you want best performance. What should I do? Also, the power supply had some reviews stating that the outlets for the cables are positioned on the bottom of the PSU, and therefore have caused cable length/positioning/overheating problems in many cases. Would you be able to find a case with sufficient space, and also compatible space-wise in terms of the PSU? Thank you kindly. Also one more thing: I wont be purchasing the setup until a few months from now- will the products be permanently out of stock by then?

Overclocking seems like a complicated task when you first look at it, but overclocking a processor can be a as simple as putting in a few numbers, if it's too much windows will just fail to boot (so your computer wont explode or anything). Also, since the chips are so good for overclocking... theres dozens of forums where people post the overclocks they have managed with the particular CPU. When I overclocked my chip i looked at the overclockers.co.uk forums which had a guide to setting my exact mobo model up for overclocking and a whole thread dedicated to the CPU I had where people posted their overclock settings... meaning it took litterally 10 minutes to get a great stable overclock.

Also, the power supply had some reviews stating that the outlets for the cables are positioned on the bottom of the PSU, and therefore have caused cable length/positioning/overheating problems in many cases.

Most Thermaltake Full Towers will have plenty of space (they're huge!). I am personally using the Thermaltake Armour at the moment.

They wont be out of stock, but they certainly will have been replaced by better stuff for the same price. For example, Intel will be releasing a few new chips in the coming months, and they're current ones are rumoured to have a 40% price cut coming. Also theres the battle of the DX10, with ATi releasing they're reply to the 8800 anyday now. So it's impossible to give you a list of components for a months time, asking nearer the time of purchase would get you a better idea of what to buy.

Keep your eye on tech websites like anandtech.com to see what new stuff comes out over the next few months also.

Right now the Intel is the best by far. Even the lowest Intel Core 2 Duo will beat out the better AMD X2 procs. So this is my suggestion:

^That would be the best gaming rig for your budget. You have all of the peripherals so it didnt nees to be any more than 2100. I am 100% sure that the Core 2 Duo's will perform waayyy better than the AMD X2's.

That rig will play BF2 maxed out at 16xAA and 16xAF.
