ok heres my situation...i was planning on getting a new desktop before i found out that BF2 didn't work on my laptop SO...
CHOICES:
1. Alienware Aurora 7500 with AMD Athlon 64 X2 and NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT
2. Dell XPS 710 with Intel Core 2 Duo and 256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS

First i want to know if the graphics cards on both of those are supported by BF2. Then, i want to know which type of processor is better(intel core 2 duo vs. AMD Athlon 64 X2) , better in like quiteness, speed and performance....
Then finally, which computer you would recommend buying.

whats ur budget, its cheaper to self build & some places will build it for you cheaper than alienware or dell

both those cards are supported, with the 7950 being better (i think).
also most of the Core 2's beat the amd athlon64 series.

but ya, its cheaper and more rewarding to build your own.

im pretty sure that core 2 extreme is better than core 2 quad which is better than core 2 duo but is that right???
core 2 xtreme > core 2 quad > core 2 duo???

Well, in a gaming sense: core 2 extreme > core 2 duo > core 2 quadro.

I would highly suggest to build your own computer. What is your budget?

o i thought what u meant was to custom build a comp from a website like www.ibuypower.com. i cant use any of my current comp's parts because its a laptop and i might need it for other things.

The same computer i listed above + mouse, keyboard, speakers, 19' monitor, soundcard will cost you $2100 from ibuypower.com.

It would cost $350-400 LESS if you built it on your own. Its your decision.

yea you should build it i had to make the same decision with my comp last march and i decided to build it was a good experience and save me lots of $$$$ :)

if you are going to build your own may i suggust an antic nine hundred http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 for the case, its a great case made just for gaming and air flow, since i got my the ambent temp of my case droped from 60c (old bad airflow case) to 40c (antec nine hundred)

hey what do you guys think of the intel core 2 extreme quad core? im thinking thats one of the best processors for gaming?

It all depends on what you get for the rest of your system. If your not getting atleast a 8800GTX then there will be no point.

IMO, its not worth paying double what a Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.67Ghz) costs for the same gaming performance.

So, my suggestion is to get a C2D E6700.
