Is there a certain match ?

What I mean is,

Is there a match between say, nVidia and Intel & ATI and AMD for instance,
or doesn't it make any difference?

The reason i'm asking is that in a few months time, i'm going to be looking at upgrading or building a new PC. (With Crysis in mind )
Currently I have a P4 3.6 with a nVidia 7800GTX and was thinking of going over to AMD because to be honest, my PC is mostly used for gaming and i've heard from these forums that AMD are marginally better for gaming.

Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated :)

it depends...nvidia and ati are like border line..sometimes nvidia has a stronger card, and somtimes ati has the stronger card, so it would depend on the series that is currently out, so id wait till that ati dx10 card is out and hten compare it to the 8800

also, i think intel and amd are also borderline, except i think that the core 2 duos are winning the race

Currently intel the best processors on earth. AMD had it's time, but looks like they woke up the sleeping giant and currently amd's situation looks helpless. Even cheapest Core 2 Duo does faster than AMD's most expensive product and has better power consumption. Pentium architecture wasn't very efficient, and AMDs used to be faster in games. However, things have changed completely now.

Nvidia and ati is more difficult. Both are good and have good cards, currently nVidia is leading with 8800s, but ati will be back with R600/X2800. Most likely it'll end up in a draw, but I'd prefer nVidia, since I've never had any problems with it and they always work perfectly what comes to design and drivers, unlike ATI.

Right now the Intel Core 2 Duo is way better.

Yeah right now the core 2 duo even the e6300 beats amd's flagship chips in everysingle benchmark.

Guys thanks for all your very helpful and quick replies, looks like I will stick with Intel.
I don't think I worded my question very well, what I was trying to ask was is there a better pairing of components, like AMD with ATI and nVidia with Intel, or AMD with nVidia and ATI with Intel, if you get what I mean lol, or is it all just a matter of personal preference.

Its all about what is best for your money. Dont worry which brand you go for.
