7600GT or X850XT

I am runnin a 7600GT in my rig right now and I just scored an X850XT for free. I dont know which one is better. Could I get a little from the community which one I should use???

I was under the impression that the 850 was better... I was at TomsHardware and just checked them out on the first page Half-Life.... and the 850 seemed better... but its all French to me. Still not sure, but thanks for the input.

Stick with your 7600GT, it may be slower in some games, but it's nVidia. And that's a lot. I'll never buy Ati again, just acquired a 1950 Pro because it looked promising and I ended up in a Radeon hell. Never buy Ati again.

850xt is a nice card, it's the top product of it's era, unlike 7600, which is a mainstream card (nothing exiting there), but still 7600GT and you'll save yourself from tons of headache.

yeah i always thought the x850xt was a tiny bit faster..like equivalent to a 7800gt but i guess im wrong. i think its mainly becuz the ati x800s dont support shader model 3.0

is it enough to be worth the change over? ive seen the clocking tool on the cataylst seems kinda easy. how much of a difference does that shader 3.0 make?

It will make a good difference later on, but right now its not important. The only game that needs SM 3.0 is Rainbow 6: Vegas.

Stick with the 7600gt, and put the x850xt on Ebay, or keep it as a backup. The x850's were really good cards, and might perform better in some games (16 pixel pipelines and 256-bit memory interface make up for a lot of architecture advancements) but I don't think it would justify the swap.

Recommended, but no required. I'm looking a the bottom of the box now.

I know it's not required, because under the supported chipsets, it says the FX series, which doesn't support SM 3.0 at all.
