lower end 8 series (dx10) cards?

so are they going to come out with any lower end 8 series cards in the near future? such as an 8300 or something that doent cost 300-600 bucks?

i plan to build a new system this summer, upgrading up to dual core and pci-e finally. im not really that into having ultra grand visuals or anything, because the only games i play on pc are bf2, and im content playing that on medium.

it seems smart to get something that is dx10, but really i dont plan to play anything thats much better than bf2 in terms of visuals. so maybe i can just go with like a 7300 or something, since those are only like 100 or less.

But they will release the 8600 and havnt give me a rlease date for something like 8300!

The 8800GTS 320mb version just came out and at a decent price too.

The 8600GT and 8600 Ultra are gonna come out at very good prices.

Why would you want a low end card anyway? Low end was and will never be intended for gamers, it is meant for computers that need a video card(no onboard), or people who won't be gaming much at all.

The 8600's are supposed to be coming out at retail(not Newegg prices) of $199 and $149 from what I have read. That seems a little low IMO, since it doesn't leave much room for the low end cards arriving later. But they shouldn't be over $249-199 at worst case.

All current cards of course will be discounted upon the release of these 8600's and also ATI's DX10 cards in April. If you don't want DX10, you still get a cheaper DX9 by waiting 2 months.

im not talking like super lower end that over heats while using MS Paint. i just need soemthing that can play BF2 on medium nicley. BF2 is only PC game i play, i never really played anything on PC prior to it.

and it will be about 4-5 months before i end up upgrading, so i guess a lot can happen in that time in terms of prices/performance.

No that was the new 8800gts that only has 320 mb of ram on hardocp they have some new reviews on them

I agree somewhat with what you said look at how nvidia did not discontinue the 6xxx line even after the 8800's were released i think that once these 8600's do come out they will discontiue the 6 series but no way they'll stop the 7 series

At OP what kind of slot do you have? if you have a pci-e slot i would go with the 7600 gt for now

No comparison. The 8600 Ultra would absolutely own it. Comparing those 2 cards is actually demeaning the 8600.

lol this is true. the x800 series is a couple years old and any newer mid range card will own it. I have a x800xt-pe which runs bf2 decent, but the 7800gtx on my laptop gets way better frame rates.

All I'm gonna say is that when they release the g80, the pricing on the whole line of recent nVidia cards is going to decrease significantly. It might not be a big price drop for the most recent cards, but I'd still say a $50 cut wouldn't be unheard of for those as well.

And then you have the competition between nVidia and ATI. Both companies will likely pull all sorts of things, ranging from selling lower end cards of their top cards, price cuts, etc... all the way to upgrading the 80xx series, and keeping the same price. Whatever happens, theres gonna be some nice prices in the near future.
