8600's final specs?

i knew the 8600 ultra was to good to be true:cry:
well im sure not getting the bfg version of this chip like i did with my last card:laugh:
any thoughts as to why they only have 256 mb of ram while the gts +gtx have more than 512(i know there mid range but still such a large drop in ram!?!?)

im guessing cuz theyre making it affordable for everyone. so ppl can have a dx10 card while not having to pay like $500 for it

but 128bit memory? they really cut back on the 8600 which is somewhat disappointing

Because the 8600 series is a mid-level card.

I imagine one or more of the companies making 8600's will eventually make a 512 though. But with only a 128bit memory bus, this would be mostly useless.

Right now, everyone is wondering how they plan to utilize the card to its fullest with 256mb ram/128bit bus...not even concerned about the 512 possibility.

if the card cant use 512mb of ram thy're not gonna put it on,its would just be a marketing thing liek the 7300 with 512 when we all know that its piece of crap but 512 mb of ram makes it sound great for the uninformed consumer.

true but lets remember that we dont know how much memory dx10 games will need to run smooth cause there arn't any games out yet (we have all seen crysis stutter on a 8800gtx):hmm: if dx10 needs more vram for frame buffering then those who do buy the 8600 will be left in the dust as ati release there mid-range cards in the summer wich will be more powerfull anyway(maybe only slightly though) im hopping that uses 512mb of 256mb ram that way nvidia wouldn't get more heat for another faulty cards (7900 launch) or drivers (vista/vistasli)
