Yes, Dell's are not that upgrade friendly at all.
I have however been forced to upgrade the hard drive, the Maxtor that was in the Dimension 4700 I have **** itself (the motor was on the way out as it would constantly click over once the system had been up and running for a few minutes). Luckily I was able to take a ghost image of the drive so I didn't lose any data at all. I have replaced the piece of **** Maxtor with a Western Digital 320GB 7200rpm Serial ATA-II-300 HDD with 16MB Cache even though my MB supports only SATA-1. I am of course always looking to the future. Since then I've gotten sick of lag, mainly due to my video card which is a Radeon X300 with 128mb RAM (it is a miracle that BF2 especially SF which I play a lot of runs on the card at all). So the other day I ordered online a GeForce 7600GS with 512MB as well as 2X Kingston 1gig PC2-4200 533Mhz RAM sticks to supplement the two 512mb DDR2 PC2-3200 sticks I already have in the system. Yes, I know the new sticks will run at the slower speed of the two original sticks but I am looking to use all of the new components in a new pc I hope to build in the next few months whilst giving my current system to the missus (with a new hard drive) so she can just surf (she isn't really into gaming). Given the same situation would you have followed the same upgrade path especially in regards to the video card since I know the GT is faster but the GS with twice the amount of RAM was cheaper and what sort of increase in system performance do think I'll gain? I just wish the package would arrive in the post now so I can find out
