Urgent Help!pls Vista im confussed!?!?!?People who know pls

Vista has just been released here in auzzie land (today)

and my system is amd64 bit(HPgames machine) all round But..im confussed by all these different versions like....

vista 32 bit why would it not be 64 in this age?as that is why i want to change over(to 64 bit),i will look in the shops today but ive read on these forums in previous post 64 bit is something else??not realsed yet?(vista ulitmate?is that correct?)

they have home premuim upgrade is that just a full 32 bit version or is it a full 32 bit or 32/64 bit OP

that is 176$aus but on tv there was a 276$aus version at harvey normanand now a 400$ version at dicksmiths

as i can see im easily confussed lol:laugh: but i just want someone to set me straight!

also it may be that premuim oh sorry i mean unlimate:p is the full 64 bit version i want but that will cost 500$aus dollars i will asume and wont be affordable?

should i buy now or wait?id luv a new OP sick ov XP but dont want to sell myself short later.
if home premuim upgrade is both 64 and 32 bit i would be happy?

lol also finally!sorry full versions and upgrades?whats the diff as both can be fresh installs im told?lol i sound like a noob!
    7800 gtx drivers?
    amd320064 939cpu drivers?
    gigabyte k8n board drivers?

There is a 32 bit and 64 bit version. If you want 64 bit you need that version. That being said I would wait until you at least have a DX10 video card before even considering Vista.

i dont know who to believe on what because they didnt know much?
      from mem there was

      vista basic(acedemic)?
      vista home premuim279$
      vista home(A)300$
      vista full450$

        Check this out:

        http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...s/default.mspx

Personally I'd go for Home Premium 64 bit if I didn't already have Enterprise edition.

ok thanks thunderpimp that tells me all but basic are 64 bit but i wonder what are the performances diff between ultimate vista to home premuim vista.

and why or whats better in a full version rather than upgrade if u can clean install both?

i have this idea if u have xp and just buy upgrade it will be a cheaper copy of vista?

Welcome to the wonderful world of MS OS launches. This one is actually the most complicated with the biggest price gap between flavors. I recommend waiting for a bit until all/most of the bugs are worked out.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about either. There are NO bugs or MS wouldn't launch it, believe me. I'm running Vista 32bit Ultimate Edition flawlessly, running practically every prog I could run on XP as well.

I've also got the 64bit version, but not yet installed.

ok after webbing a bit i heard ultimate can lock the 64 bit mode thus getting better performance?any confirmation?anyone.

also ive read eax and soundcards at all arent supported and have put many companies in a dire times.there is a patch i hear to fix eax,it uses pre win 95 technology that is avually another open GL app(called OpenGL A) i think and its software driven only making sound cards useless and the companies in one post i read

also i read in posts that if u buy a upgrade is records ur motherboard and u cannot change it later (security stuff)

can anyone confirm any of this?

p.s there will be bugs in it but if u do it now u will be ahead in the game maybe

Re: Urgent Help!pls Vista im confussed!?!?!?People who know pls

I have been running Win XP Pro x64bit Edition for over a year now and Vista x64 has the same problem as XP x64.

Numbers ... even though XP x64 is a far better OS than XP x32 nobody uses it so vendors have no $$ incentive to support it with drivers. Thus nobody wants to use it.

The vast majority of Vista installs will be x32 so x64 support will continue to be slow.

By the way XP x64 is the bomb buddy all my games scream and the only thing I cant do is print to my wifes Lexmark printer. Oh and just try and find a Lexmark Vista x64 driver.

So there are working 32 and 64-bit drivers for EVERY piece of hardware and peripheral? EVERY game works flawlessly? No issues with ANY piece of "supported" hardware?

Does no one remember the launch for XP? 64-bit XP? Millenium Edition? Wait, I think I blacked out for those launches. Maybe they only happened in an alternate reality if MS would never launch an OS with any bugs in it.

How about the DRM? Can you play every single piece of media you currently have on Vista with no restrictions? I guess you must have gotten the right video card and monitor with the right cables then.

How about DirectX hardware sound support? Are ALL of my games going to be all super-spiffy using my X-fi for sound reproduction? Or is it only the ones that use software sound and my CPU cycles? Maybe the ones that use Open-GL instead of DirectSound?

There are quite a few reasons in my honest opinion to wait to switch to Vista. Until I see a Vista-only "killer app," I'm sticking with my mostly solid, well-established, WinXP.

EDIT: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108191 So, if Vista is the Holy Grail of OSs, with NO BUGS WHATSOEVER, then this guy and others like him must be f*cking retards, right?

Of course not, why bother asking? And by the way, I didn't even refer to hardware in my post. Well if you count programs as hardware, then yes.

It's called evolution. Companies learn from their mistakes, MS has worked with Vista now during 5 years. Do you SERIOUSLY think they'd launch anything with alot of bugs?

You clearly (again) have no F*CKING idea of what you're talking about. DRM is Digital Rights Management, it has NOTHING to do with either the monitor, the video card OR the drivers. Hahaha

You might wanna go through what you just wrote there. Vista comes with improved features that WILL make gaming faster with good hardware. Yes, MOST of your games (except 'Barbie And The Nutcracker') will be all 'super-spiffy' using your good sound card.

My opinion of vista is pretty much exactly what the following editorial says, except I don't have his hardware enthusiast desire to upgrade now: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

I don't see anything that makes me NEED to upgrade to Vista right now.

And I believe that there are literally millions of configurations of computers, with varying hardware and software combinations that people will want to use. I'm sure Microsoft has tested many things, but it would be impossible to test all of them, so I think bugs should be expected. XP has been out for five years now, and although it is nice, there are still problems people have with drivers, and believe it or not, people do still get Blue Screens of Death. So I think that it is incredibly misleading to say Vista will be bug-free.

Of all the previews of gaming on Vista (although it has been on Release Candidates, not retail), the fps was generally quite a bit lower than it was in XP, and Vista did take up more memory. Koroush Ghazi over at Tweakguides says he has found ways to improve upon that, but I'm not gonna be the early adopter to lay down $200-$400 when the tweaks may not work for me.
