7800Gtx hits 107c "Gulp"

Hi

I was playing CSS today and some Bf2. While checking Temps in CSS it hit 107c :|: , I thort well it isnt rising any higher and ill be stopping in half an hour so left it at that as there were no evidence of artifacting yet, but did turn my case fans to full power.

Now ive decided a 3rd party cooler maybe a good idea. I thort id pick this, http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=470199. My Room tempeature can get very hot (xbox doesnt like it either, but the pc never got this hot) so a 3rd party cooler could help. THE CARD IS NOT OC ANYMORE AND HASNT BEEN FOR MONTHS.

Im also gonna clean out my pc tommorow to see if getting rid of the small ammount of dust in my rig helps.

Any thoughts?

im not sure if 107C is very dangerous. it certainly isnt good, but in the nvidia control panel for my video card, it says that the '"Core slowdown threshold" is at 120C, so not sure wat that means really. and dusting should help alot. can u open a window to help cool the room temp? cuz the pc will never be cooler than the room

A pci-blower might also help. In addition to the better gpu cooling, that would exhaust the hot air coming from the gpu to the back of the case.

Really sounds like you've got some larger cooling issues there. Maybe adding/upgrading/boosting the juice on an intake fan might help, too.

I have two of those on my 7900's they are really good it knocked my temps down 10-12 degrees

Update: I cleaned the fan filters out and ran a 3d mark 06 test and the GFX heat hit about 86c which is alot better. But i will further test it tonight with a heavy gaming session. But the idle tempeature has lowered from the clean out, Used to be about 66c now is 63c.

Case wise i have 2 side fans intake fans blowing on the card and cpu, 1 front fan blowing on the HDD, 1 on the top blowing in and one on the back blowing out. both are 80mm.

Id keep a close eye on those temps 100 degrees plus isnt healthy for your 7800gtx

i would download a program called Rivatuner and turn your GPU fan up to higher speeds

Sure it will be noisy but it will lower temps quite a bit

I think the one on the top may just be blowing hot air back down towards your components. Try turning it off and see what it does to your temps. Then try reversing it and see what that does. Hot air rises, you're trapping it in the case instead of letting it out.
My case just has vents on the top. Hot air is always coming out of there. I can't imagine pushing it right back in would be a good thing.

^ditto. top is an exhaust fan, not an intake. when you say "blowing on your hard drives", also make sure this fan is oriented so that this fan is in the intake orientation.

sounds to me like jimtool hit the nail on the head (edit: i really hate puns)--you're concentrating hot air inside your pc with too little exhausts.

i did think about that, while in college. And ill give it a shot now and see what happens, also all the intake fans have a dust filter on them except the top one for some reason so swapping it round may also stop the dust getting in.

well i checked the top one and it was taking air out, but the case fan on top seems to not have enough gap for the air to flow out so its pushed back wards.

I did a 3d mark 06 tests with it all in a loop for 3 times and it hit 97c, the CPU is at 37c as well so the circulation seems to be fine.

Im not a expert in cooling and this has lost me as all seems to be fine!

yeh im going to roll back to 8x.xx drivers to see what hapopoens if not zalman cooler here i come.

But that temp is nuts i can boil water on that , but it did used to be 70-80c.

Got one of these from the USA a 240mm side intake fan my temps went right down it gives the case better air flow pics below






Also get some zalmans vf900's m8 i swear by them a few pics
