        nice info.

taking a wait-and-see. i think prices should fall through the floor on high-end dx9 hardware just prior to the release of crysis, and once there are mainstream dx10 cards on the market. none of the e-tailers will want to be stuck with large stocks of 79xx's and x19xx's, so it might be a great time to score a deal on that x1950xt that has been lusting after my electrons.

besides, the e6420's with double the cache ve6400's will be on the market this summer, for the same price as their 2mb cache cousins.

i just--ha-ha--went the other direction, though. bought a nice refurbished socket 478 mobo and another gig of used pc3200 for cheap on ebay, and a new cooler over at www.SVC.com

they aren't price competitve with newegg most of the time, but their sale/clearance prices on cooling components and cables rocks.

And what do you mean by better?
            Faster?
            DX10 Compatible?
            More RAM?

Wait, say again how it's better? I'm all ears. I really want to know.

Counting MHz is for chumps. That's like saying a 3.0 GHz P4 is better than an AMD 4000+.

MHz does count though. Obviously a core clock of 600 MHz is better than 350MHz (not true info just an example)

So my 7800GT overclocked higher than a stock 7800GTX is better?
Even though it has less pixel pipelines and less RAM?

8600 ultra seems same as my 7900gs just with 512mb memory and dx10

i expected a little more seeing how good the 8800gtx was

Look at the clock speeds of the 8800GTX and compare them to the 7900GTX. Then see how the 8800 spanks a single 7900, and SLIed 7900s in some benchmarks. The stream processors must be doing something right, I guess.
Pure clock speed is not all there is to performance.

Think of this like P4s and A64s. Higher clockspeed doesn't always mean better.

The 7800 GTX has more pipelines = faster card. Clock speed means sh!t if it hasn't got the pipelines to back it up. Period.
