LOL nice one G15... great k/b... you got the G15 Bf2 mod yet? lol
I email you? :p
hummm havnt seen mega for a couple of days wonder if the raid got the better of him
Nah. Actually, I got a pair of 512mb sticks of dual channel RAM from a dead pc a few days ago so I ordered a second-hand motherboard that I can use all four 512mb sticks in, and I'm waiting to get the mobo in this week to do the rebuild.
The only problem is that the new ram is pc2700 (333mhz), so unlike my current pc3200(400mhz), my prescott processor may get held back a little. The only real advantage of the 3.0E 200mhz fsb (800mhz quad-pumped) prescotts over the 3.0C northwoods was the increase from 533mhz to 800mhz effective fsb.
So, I'm going to try it out empirically, with the question of whether 2x512mb 2700 dual channel is better than 2x512mb non-dual channel pc3200 and how much (if any) 4x512mb mix of pc3200 and pc2700 is better running at pc 2700, and whether or not doubling the ram makes up for the reduction in my prescott's fsb. I think it probably will, but won't know for sure until the 3dmark88 numbers are in; I'm expecting them to be in the high trillions.
new mobo is an abit ai7; the ic7-3 Maxx i was looking at went a little too high, and since i don't have "overclocking-quality ram" (2700, lol), there was no use throwing the extra $40 away on an $80 2-year old board.
I may--MAY--try and slap some cheap ramsinks on the 2700's and push them to 3200. Not sure what they'll do, though.
let us know how much difference the paired ones make due to myself been wondering if i should get a paired of 1gb ram just so i have 4gb in total but the 2gb i have at the moment arent a pair just normal 1gb sticks

1. haven't run the 2x512 paired yet
2. have run the raid0 and...YES.
it does improve loading time/verifying client times. will have to wait until I get a little more "bloatware" (i.e., office 2003) on the primary, but so far, I'm very happy with the following caveat:
it WAS NOT easy for me (as a first timer) to get my raid array working. my floppy connection is defective (as best as I can tell--the light stays on and windows will not recognize a floppy, even after a swap with a known good). i started out with two eide's and two sata's i wanted to stripe, and it has taken me a week to get them working properly (windows on eide1, swapfile/music/media on eide2, raid0 for programs on 2xsamsung hd160hj).
bottom line: i think that the array gives me performance approaching that of a 10k drive, with 3x the space, for .3x the price.
Still waiting on mobo to try the 4x512 setup, but I'm telling ya'--I can't wait to stripe these boosturds with an E6420 and some decent ddr2, with an x1950xt thrown in to boot.
the world is your oyster when you're a cheap a$$ gamer!

The Prescotts and Northwoods were both available with the 800mhz FSB. The only advantage Prescott had at all was it's doubling of the L1-D and L2 cache. In fact that still doesn't make it an advantage since the prescott runs hotter and is slower clock for clock than the Northwoods. This was due to the prescott having a 31 stage pipeline vs. Northwoods 20 stage.
