    Re: Overclocking?

Overclocking is the process of forcing a computer component to run at a higher clock rate than it was designed for or was designated by the manufacturer.

Overclocking is usually practiced by PC enthusiasts in order to increase the performance of their computers. Some hardware enthusiasts purchase low-end computer components which they then overclock to higher speeds, while others overclock high-end components to attain levels of performance beyond what they were designed for. <Wikipedia>

It is a relatively risky procedure, requiring a lot of time and dedication to be given in order to get the best from your hardware. It is very easy to overclock too far and destroy your hardware, so, unless you know what you are doing.

    LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

        Re: Overclocking?

overclocking is relativly simple when you sit down and read about it. But then again my mobo makes it so easy for me.

I can go into the memory tell it that its SLI memory (which it is) and it will take the timings from 5-5-5-18 to 4-4-4-12. Then my Mobo will auto adjust the Voltage etc with the CPU clock. EVGA 680i FTW!!!!!!!!!

Yea, overclocking the memory and tightening latencies is easy....

it's when you get down to things like trying to break the 3.0ghz barrier on a Intel Core 2 Duo with stock cooling. Thats when it takes skill. But any old person can click the "find optimal" button in Nvidia's coolbits

                He said 3.0Ghz on a Core 2 Duo, not a P4. A Core 2 Duo @ 3Ghz is the equivalent of a P4 @ 5.2Ghz

I don't see anywhere that he said he has a Core 2 Duo, but I'm willing to bet that is what he has and has added the speed of the two cores together to come up with that 3.6 ghz speed.

Probably true. Probably also find that he has a Dell/HP/etc, and can't overclock it anyway.

Someone has pushed their E6300 to 3.9GHZ, now THAT is an achievement. It's somewhere in the Steam forums, with CPU-Z proof.
