So your old computer is over heating and you think by getting new parts will solve it. Hardly, it will most likely be down to the case & the wiring & the room temp.

Clean out the case of any dust, get some fans put in. One in the front for intake & 1 on the rear for out take & maybe one on the side also intake.

Clean up the wiring, make sure nothing is on the mobo or interupting the airflow & try not to be in a room thats very stuffy. And you will see a difference.

getting new parts doesn't solve the problem, only covers it up, for it to happen again.

I've already tried everything, plus I want to move up to 64bit anyway.

I'm not here for help with the overheating, I'm done with this crap. And anyway, I used to have an AMD at 1.7Ghz that did not overheat in this room and in that case.

I wouldn't go with that card, low RAM amongst other things. If you can afford it go for this: Inno3D GeForce 7600GT 256MB.

Save your money on the sound card. The onboard will work as well as the audigy se for gaming. Currently, you'll need at least an audigy 2 (non-SE) to offload the hardware mixing onto the soundcard and not use cpu cycles.

As mentioned, that video card is on the high side of low-end. 7600gt would take you squarely to a mid-end card, and keep you happy gamer for at least another year and a half.

People are going to tell you that 1gb sucks, but I find that it is decent enough.

As for the rest, it's a decent budget rig. My suggestion would be to consider a pentium d 805 processor ($80 on this side of the antlantic) with a Core 2 Duo compatible motherboard and ddr2 value ram. That way, you can still build a budget computer now, but when you want to upgrade to C2D, you won't have to toss out everything and start fresh. The ram and mobo you have chosen are dead-end products, but do offer a small price advantage for the short term.

            Pentium d 840

Get a Core 2 Duo and a 7600GT, other than that, doesn't matter. That's too tight a budget to last. You can snatch a C2D on eBay for about £70 if you look well, or if you order from the EU, you can get it for £50, provided you have someone who can speak Dutch or wherever you want to order from.

As for the card, the 7600GS is kinda weak, especially that one. 128MB cards DO NOT cut it nowadays.

It would definitaly be worth it to spend the extra $25 to get the 7600GT: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=468690
