theirs nothing majorly wrong with vista, played all my games pretty good during the beta phase im just waiting for it to be released publically so i can buy mine

there's also not much of an advantage for buying vista, unless you're just feeling philanthropic towards the coders at M$.

the last really good, secure, un-bloated build was Windows 2000. xp is marginal; the only really revolutionary product that has the capacity to make user experience dramatically better is 64-bit support in both xp 64 and (by extension) 64-bit vista. and that is provided you can find drivers/software that takes advantage of the bigger data pipe.

vista does for xp pro users what Win 98 SE did for Win 98 users--a few nice bumps like native usb support. i mean--geez, it took them five years to code in a pretty/multi functional desktop area (aero), and you're gong to need at least a decent year-or-two-at-the-most gpu to even enjoy that. (ok, there are a multitude of nominal improvements, but vista is essentially xp sp3 material in my book). they claim it is a more secure environment, but that is to be expected.

i'll probably get vista from my school when i see "vista and dx10 compliant card" on the sysreq of the first "must-have" game of 2008, provided i have the time to play games then. 'til then, no reason to pony up, imho.
