Sweet deal on an Antec p180 case

The p180 is a really great case, according to all sorts of reviews, and best buy has it on their site today for $79.99, FREE SHIPPING.

add a wrist strap, and the wrist strap is free because they are also offering 15% off when you combine two "component" items:

I don't usually shop best buy, but I am buying this case/wrist strap from them today for $78.23--it's $120 + $15 to ship on newegg!

    Double Post!!!!

    I really want a P180

I just bought myself an Antec Nine Hundred and it is fecking sweet. They have used the wind tunnel design to the max with the 200mm fan on top. I'm scared that one day it'll chop my hand off... :hmm:

it isn't a double post if you delete the first one. :p

nine hundred is great for pure performance; i want a quiet rig, too. this one is in the mail to me--next upgrade will be a c2d/mobo that is compatible with my pc3200 and agp card, to bridge the gap until i get that x1950xt and 2gb ddr2.

        it's fairly simple--round hole/square peg = no; round hole/round peg or square peg/square hole = yes.

i hope this is the reworked version. the original had a poor solution for gpu exhaust, a weird deep box-type internal fan, and sort-of flimsier two-ply doors instead of three-ply.

            good review here:
            http://www.silentpcreview.com/article254-page1.html

one of the spcr folks collaborated with antec on the build, so it is very descriptive and technically very accurate, but be careful with the praise--you can imagine that they might have some objectivity issues, even with the best of intentions.

of note: if your psu doesn't have sufficiently long cables to reach from the bottom to the top of your case, you might need extensions/adapters.

for $80, though, i didn't even think twice. if i can't make it work, then i'll ebay it for $100. :)

know im deciding between this or a new cpu hsf(artic 7)cause it oooks nice and will reduce noise as well because im not happy with the crappy intel hsf.

if you get the antec p180, the noise gets muffled behind three-ply walls. then again, i've got ALOT of artic cooling products in my case (cpu cooler, video card cooler, fans), and they are great for keeping things quiet and cool, too.

tough call, but i'm guessing you won't see a p180 for $80 with free shipping again for a while.

i think im just gonna go for the artic cooling fan as that would make me happier:) and then maybe get that case as well for i still have money :)

im just thinking if im able to make the transfer between the 2 new cases as im new to building comps,im just want to make sure i could get the wires in the right places and stuff and actually putting the psu and mobo back in itself.

I saw that... good deal. I ended up just buying one from newegg because I wanted a black case. the BB one is silver only. egg has a rebate going on that drops the price down to $99, but you still have to pay shipping. to me it was worth the $$ for the black.

Just got it today; the thing is built like a mack truck. all the panels are made of plastic sandwiched by aluminum, and it was actually the updated version with the better door. it's heavier and a little bigger than i thought, but overall i'm impressed and convinced i got my money's worth.

i'm now thinking about how to set it up, and whether to go ahead and take the dual-core plunge. there is a pentium d 805 + mobo combo on newegg for $127. throw in a gig of ram, an x1950xt, and a new PSU, and we're up to a very decent rig for ~$500. of course, i'd plop down another $500 this summer on another gig of ram, the new 4mb cache version of the E6400 (E6420 I think) when it is released, and maybe--just maybe--a little sister for that x1950xt. (i'm not sold on crossfire, yet.)

but the sliver one has lines that break up the "big imposing brick" feel of a monochromatic chunk of glossy black aluminum sitting under the desk; fang shooey and letting the energy of the space flow ftw. :)
btw, what do you set your fans on and how loud do they get under load?

definitely don't get a Pentium D, even the low end Core 2's have better performance than a D. Personally I'm waiting till April for the prices to drop on the Q6600 quad core.

I just got the case and havent even used it yet, so I have no info on the fans. :p
I think I'm gonna end up using a fan controller anyhow.

you should check into getting a better sink/fan. this is what I currently have and it works great for P4's.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sitting on a p4 3.0E, 2x512mb ddr ram, and an agp x800xt AIW, 2 aging eide hdd's and 2 just fine eide opticals (dvd/cdrw and a dvdr/rw). The temptation to go dual-core+mobo for less than $130 has subsided, for now.

I'm only spending (on average) a couple hundred every couple of months (have about $400 right now) so I've decided to upgrade the nominals firstly. Going with an antec 650W trio, 2x250gb samsung hd's in raid0, and 2x1gb pc6400 (my mobo will accept ddr/ddr2). I can use all that stuff right now.

Later (this summer) all I'm going to need will be a new mobo, processor (looking at the E6420 due in the summer), and a gpu (probably x1950xt unless there is a competitive dx10 card in that performance/price range by then)--all for around $400-$500.

Most of the stuff I have now I can ebay for a fairly good return--the x800xt aiw will ebay for $100, if I package my current mobo/processor/ram, then I'm looking at another $150, so by the time I upgrade everything, I should be looking at being out ~$600 for a super quiet, kick-harse system.

edit: quad-core? soon? lots of money for little software support...for the near future. :)
