Just want to give you guys a heads up about the New 8800GTX

1.Make sure you have a Power Supply 400Watts (12v,30A) I only had 20A
:cry: So i had to buy a new one

2. Dont be freaking out when the Core Temp reachs up 85c becuse at idle i only get 60+

3.Make sure your case has room its freaking huge!!!!

4.Make Sure you download the right Drivers (NVIDIA HAS SPECIAL DRIVERS FOR 8 SERIES :]) Click link here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_97.44.html

This just Ones of many out there .i just want to help out and give some you guys a heads up on the new video if your looking to buy one.

True. I intend to get an 8800GTS (2nd tier) after Ati's rebuttal comes out. With GTSs at $450 now, I see them dropping to less than $400 shortly. THEN I'll get one. Once the drivers have come out that take advantage of their power, of course.

I can live with my lame little 7800GT until then. I just hope most of my rig is up to the task of providing a good GPU enough instructions to try to exploit its awesomeness. :p

EDIT: About the temp concerns of the 8800 series, I've gotten my 7800GT up to 70+ with no problems. F.E.A.R. and Oblivion + overclocking can do that.

In SLI enabled game 2x 7900GTX is better than a 8800GTX. Visa versa in non-SLI games.

Dangerous times to buying a new graphics card especially if you're buidling a new rig (like myself). Do you get the 8800 or wait 2-3 months (?) for ATI's offering. Even then performance differences will be based on DirectX 9 game benchmarks (even under Vista). The boys from the men won't be sorted out until the arrival of the first DX 10 games and by then we'll see even faster models from both companies. Serious level-headed-ness is required.

I wouldn't pay more than $500-ish for a top card but the thickness of one's wallet is the deciding factor in the end. Wait and pay less as more competition/better models appear or blow your wad now 'cuz it's small change to you.

Glad I didn't have to pay a penny to my new rig's Intel X6800 CPU. Thank you Santa (re: friends and family). Otherwise I'd dished out on the E6600.

I was joking. Sarcasm doesn't always come across as such in this medium, though.
The only thing I hate about my 7800GT is that they were discontinued or something just a couple of months after I got it. I tried to get a second for some SLI action and they were nowhere to be found, replaced by the 7900GT. To top it off, 7900GTs were going for less than I paid for my 7800. Now THAT is lame.
It would be nice to be able to play more games at my monitor's native res, though. 1600x1200 kills my card in most games.

No way, I actually love my 7800GT for the most part. The first time I beat FEAR it was with a Radeon 9550 that I put the biggest possible HSF on and overclocked until it was unstable, then dialed back a notch. I still had to play at 800x600, no shadows, none of the sweet effects like explosions and the slow-mo stuff. I'm playing again after over a year and it's a totally different game with everything turned on like I have it now. I still only run at 1024x768, but all of the details are maxed and I use 4x AA.
That game scares the freaking crap out of me now. Before it was no worse, or much better, than Doom 2.
