I am looking into building a Vista gaming PC, and aren't quite sure on the performance benefits of RAID 0 for BF2 map loading times. Will I get a noticable performance increase with 2 Seagate 400GB 7200.10 SATA2 HDDs set as RAID 0, or should I just use a single 10000rpm 150gb Raptor instead? I can't afford 2 Raptor hard drives. Thanks in advance for any info.

I use 2x 74 gb Raptor in RAID 0 and good as they are in real terms you are probably just as well getting the two 400gb as the platter density will negate the need for high revolution drives. -

Thanks for the replies, I will probably go with the 2 400gb hard drives then. As my PC doubles as a HTPC, I was planning to partition the drives so that I have a 300gb partition for games and Vista etc. and the rest would be used for high definition videos. Am I likely to run into any problems doing this on a raid 0 array? I also want to do this partly so that I can use a hard disk imaging program (such as Acronis True Image) to back up the 300gb partiton only.Comment

I have a single 74gb raptor, it is amazingly fast! I would never take a 7200 as my primary hd ever again.Comment

I have twin WD 320GB drives in RAID 0 as my primary, and it is very fast. I still think that I will likely drop in a single 10,000 rpm raptor to use as the OS drive though, and then run my 320's in RAID 1 for redundancy.
Even with a dual core Athlon 64 chipset, I just don't think my system is fast enough to really use twin raptors, and I doubt the 7200 twin 320's are any faster than the single 10,000 rpm raptor would be either.Comment
